Need an opinion on the Charity auction I have running the forum has spoken!

Well it looks like the proceeds from the auction are going to Boom to be distributed from there!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

    Lots of good choices here.
Would be nice to support Boom's efforts. Maybe another charity auction is in order given the magnitude of the earthquake damage. I voted to let the winner decide.

  • I would keep it as is, because changing it may look suspicious, especially to non-forum members.

Helping the tsunami victims is a nice gesture, but I would hate to have people think this auction is questionalble a la the scumbag selling colorized JFKs (the one that Russ found and started a thread on).

  • The money should go to the BOOM charity, don't change it now. It would not look good.
Lets start a 2nd auction for the tsunami relief fund and give ALL the proceeds (less eBay/PayPal fees) to the Red Cross & show that eBay jerk "poloblade" what a real charity auction is.
We can start a thread asking members to donate stuff to sell. & list it on Jan 6 for 10 days as a Featured auction. I think its worth the $20.

  • you cannot change now

That much money will make no difference to the asia relief fund , plus we are all donating with our tax dollars to eathquake fund. The money to Booms fund will do much more good. IMHO

I think it's safe to say that this has been a much greater success than anyone would have ever guessed.

Why not send a few bucks in a few different directions? Boom gets some, some other recipient(s) get(s) some...winner decides.

I believe the vast majority of the bidders to date have been board members.

I think in the best interest of why you did the auction in hte first place was for frivolity, then became somewhat serious. The decision that should be made would be up to you for running it, Boom who is to receive the proceeds, and the winner who will be paying it.

I think I stated in another thread that maybe you 3 could decide to split the proceeds in half and make the donation that way.

You still have time left to edit your auction to maybe include this in a brief line - it may then go much higher than it is. JMO

Keeping it Boom is the right thing to do. Donors and bidders participated under the impression you were raising Boom money. Changing to the Asian disaster would be almost like running a bait and switch operation. Asia needs help but let that be another auction. I'm impressed you've done as well as you have on this one. Congrats and good luck ending it on a high note!
