Need an opinion on the Charity auction I have running.

With the recent events in Asia I was wondering if the money from the auction should go to the relief fund for the earthquake. Our little contribution may not make a visible impact, but give the magnitude of the tragedy over there every little bit would help. I talk to Boom and he said it was up to me. Well, I’m leaving it up to the board members and most of all to the winner of the auction. Opinions??
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

I can gain control of a CFC (Combined Federal Campaign) book, or it should be able to be looked up on line somewhere, where it has literally thousands of associations that accept donations. You will be amazed at how much of the "Donated" money is actually used to pay the people that are running it rather than for the actual fund.
One thing to think about, the people that donated the items, donated them thinking the proceeds were going to a specific fund. I would contact each one of them and make sure it is cool with them.

PS. I think it is very commendable to do what you are doing.
Yes the CFC is a Military related program, however, the charities will accept anyones money. If you start on page 6 you will see a listing of MANY charities, at the end of each charities listing you will see a percentage... This percentage is how much the individual charity uses to out of the money that you send. For example, one that I just took a quick note of had a 24% after it... That means that 24 cents of every dollar you donate goes in their pocket the rest goes to the program. Now don't get me wrong, there are many that are much lower, and a few that are higher if you can blieve that.
This book (In the link above) is not the one that I get at work, the one I get is probably 3 times that size (Theres alot of hands out, out there).

The important thing is wharever it goes it will help.
<< <i> I have to agree with dthigpen and mrpaseo. I feel the people being helped by BOOMS charity will experience bigger impact. These people are often overlooked while many nations are reaching out to help in Asia despite being refered to as stingy.

I think it would be a good idea for you and BOOM to decide on this- you are running it for his advantage- or split the proceeds one part to boom and the other to the organization that you decide is right for the disaster relief fund.
