Help with an ISRAELI Hoard

I am helping a friend whose family has 3 large safe deposit boxes of Israeli Coins. The vault has been closed for 25 years. I believe that they have every Israeli issue as well as many duplicates. I know that Israeli coins are not hot, at least not right now, but the family is interested in selling the entire lot. There is way too much inventory for me to become an expert with this because of the time commitment. I am looking for an Israeli coin collector or some direction to a a specific group or site where I might find someone interested in buying the entire lot. Any help is greatly appreciated. My thanks -

You don't have private messages turned on, so I have to post this in the forum.

We're dealers who specialize in world/medieval and ancient coins with the financial capabilities to purchase large collections/hoards.

If you'd like to discuss further, please contact me via Private Message or through my website listed below.

But, if you sell directly to us collectors you cut out the middleman and realize higher returns.

Absolutely, as long as he has time, knows what he's got, can desribe it properly and has willing buyers for several hundred or thousands of coins....

If he's not up to the task, many dealers would be happy to help him out.

You may also want to seek out a local coin club, as they may have members who would be able to help you out in identifying and getting some idea of their value. It is pretty much impossible to determine value with out seeing them and being able to attribute them and determine condition. Large hoards can be time consuming to go through, but smaller groups may be sold easier once you know what you have in hand. I don't recommend going to a coin show or shop with a large quantity of coins and expect an offer in a matter minutes. It will take some time for anyone to go through them in order to make an offer that is both fair to the buyer and the seller.

    Howdy!

IIRC, there is an organization called the American-Israeli Numismatic Association [AINA] that has members all over the US. Search the ANA website for a link.

Also, get a copy of World Coin News [monthly paper] and check their ads for dealers in Israeli material.
Again, IIRC, there are several dealers that specialize in this material.

Now, if the family wants to sell quick [and take a beating], just sell it to the first dealer who makes an offer. If they want to maximize their return, then have the hoard examined by a specialist than put in a major auction. It is wa-a-a-a-y too late to be in the FUN auction; however, it might not be too late for a late-spring/early-summer auction. It is probably not too late to get in the ANA summer show's sale.

    Just MHO & US$0.02 worth...

In addition, you might also find the Israel Numismatic Society link helpful if you speak hebrew.
