It is with great sadness that I post the passing of Gloria Peters today.....

Many of you remember Gloria and her good friend and business partner Cindy Mohon of P& M Rare Coins and Collectibles located in CA. We shared several tables together at various ANA shows over the years and I considered her a true friend.

Some of you might have enjoyed her book The Complete Guide to Shield and Liberty Head Nickels

anyway please keep her in your prayers.....

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

  • I am very sorry to hear of this loss. I had the great pleasure of working with Gloria and Cindy when I was building my collection of shield and liberty nickels. These two great ladies were such a fine example of how a friendship and a business partnership really can work together. I always enjoyed Gloria's down to earth, "tell it like it is" approach to life. And my did she love her coins !! My greatest pleasure was giving Gloria and Cindy my shields to exhibit at ANA in New York. She told me that it was one of the high points of her career in coins to be able to have those coins in her display cases, and that she never thought she would see such coins in her lifetime. That was the greatest return I could ever have hoped to have on my investment of years of effort hunting down the finest shield nickels, and it was a thrill and an honor for me to be able to give her that pleasure.

Gloria will be remembered and missed by many.

    Best,
    Sunnywood

Sorry to hear about her passing. Sincere condolences to those who knew her.

    And great story, Sunnywood.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Thanks Sunnywood for the story. Stopping at P&M coins was always a treat. Always felt welcome over the years even though I wasn't really a customer, having bought only one coin from them years ago in Seattle.

    She will be missed. image

I've bought some nickels from them, they indeed were a pleasure to work with. My prayers as well.

Was just looking for their web site a few nights ago and could not find it. Maybe this news explains it, but if anybody knows if the website is still around, please provide a link.
Some refer to overgraded slabs as Coffins. I like to think of them as Happy Coins.

I too, am saddened to hear of Gloria's passing. Ironically, I was just reading about the 83 proof Shield Nickel in her book, turning to the inside cover and remembering when I bought the book from her and Cindy. They both autographed it, back in September of 98. I learned a great deal about grading coins from Gloria, frequently talking to her at shows. She will be greatly missed.

Any details? I called a local dealer who knew Gloria, but he hadn't heard anything. I was just wondering what may have happened. Anyone know???

  • I have their book. They both autographed it.

  • Strat,

Gloria had suffered a severe hemorrhagic stroke about a year ago, if I recall correctly, and she had a very difficult time thereafter and never fully recovered. In such cases, one can only hope that she now finds peace and is blessed to be rid of the pain and suffering.

    Best,
    Sunnywood
  • I did not have the pleasure of meeting with Gloria but, I will say prayers for her and her family.
