Well, it didn't take long for the earthquake disaster to make it the coin section on eBay.

They give $2.50 to the Red Cross, Pay $1 (If that) in materials, and net $6.49 in profit. Where do I sign up??? Oh wait, and then shipping that tiny little light box costs $6 for UPS Standard, yes, I believe that $6/per would definately be enough to cover all overhead associated with these items. Neat Racket!

There's Fundraising, and then there's Profiteering.

Yeah, I guess if your heart is in the right place, you could just make a donation without tying it to the sale of product that you also profit from.....the thing I really can't excuse is colorized kennedys..... image

2004 Half... Worth? 75 cents? For 9.95.... plus 6 dollars shipping? For a total of 15.95-.75= $15.20 The donation is $2.50 with a profit of $14.70 This seller is scum, trying to make money of the misfortune of this situation.

This ebayer should be banned for good.

Edited to add: I forgot shipping and packageing, so we'll say 3 dollars to cover overhead... $11.70 per coin sold image Loser.

$9.95 for a coin I could get at the bank for $.50. Of course they are donating 2.50 per coin to the relief effort.image

This seller likes to ride the tide of whatever is fashionable. Frankly, I am a lot more interested in the Ben Roesthlisberger state quarter (link).

You can't? Sorry I'm a Washington collector. I just figured they would be available at the bank.

  • I volunteer for the Red Cross and I don't like it. Why doesn't he just quietly send a check to the RC.

Auctions like that are sickening image

I steer away from them as they are like the policeman's/fireman's charity callers.....the actual organization gets a small pittance and the one doing it reaps huge money on the name they can use image

sigh.......that seller should go give 6 pints of blood all at once to make penance to the name of the Red Cross for that.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I received a reply to a question tonight stating that the seller's cost was 7.50, and that he ships everything by UPS. He claimed he was making absolutuly nothing on this auction. I have yet to receive a coin via UPS. I received one via Fed ex once, but only once.

I have many from that year (bought a bag).
I should go offer to sell as many as he wants to him for $5 each that way he can make a profit AND donate more to the Red Cross.

Think he would go for that? image
(I would, of course, donate the entire $5 to the Red Cross if he did go for it)

  • I wonder what his connection to the Merrick Mint is? They don't even have those available on thier own website yet. Possiby he had them made up special for himself and that's why his cost is $7.50 each?
  • I can't believe it. Who do these people think they are cashing in on death? What a joke!image

I see the coin today. Yesterday all there that was there was a big red X. If I had seen the picture yesterday, my wording in my question to the seller would have been much stronger. That is in such poor taste. I wonder what the victims of this disaster would say if they saw this. I just added this seller to my never bid list. I'm glad to see that no one has taken the bait yet. I'm sure though it won't be long.
