Pulled this 49-P Franklin from a 49 double mint set. Should end up grading MS65fbl possibly 66fbl.

Is it still a cherrypick if I paid the dealer's asking price and he knew what it was?

Either way, I got an unbvelieveably rare Top 100 Morgan variety for about 20% of what I think it's worth -- an 1880-O VAM 6B in an NGC MS61 holder. It's the only Mint State example NGC has ever graded and Jeff Oxman thinks fewer than 10 total MS examples exist in all grades combined. The last certified condition census I have from Michael Fey shows only three MS coins (63, 62, 60).

Needless to say, I can't wait for it to arrive! image
    When in doubt, don't.
  • Bought an 1878-s MOrgan as a 63 which I believe could go 64 and is possibly a VAM19image you said smallimage

  • Small?? OK: 1932D washington in F-2 $49.95, 1889CC Morgan in AG that G-4'd NGC $275, Vam 2 86S Morgan in PCGS 63PL rattler that's a lock 64PL for $50 over regular bid, 1881CC GSA for $410 that looks 65DPL, 1917 type 1 .25 for $10 in AU., and lastly a mixed paper roll of Morgans for $450 (there were 2 1894-P's no one saw in the middle!) at estate auction.

  • I wish I had video recorded this, 'cause no one ever believes it is true.

I bought my first Morgan in the early 90's. At a flea market, the guy had a few silver dollars. I noticed some strange stuff, went and bought the VAM book. Looked at the coin for about 20 hours and determined it was a VAM 44, 1878. I sent it to ANACS and they agreed; AU 55 I think was the grade.

I was poor those days and sold the coin for $800. Paid $ 10. That's my cherry pick hall of fame story and I wish I still had the coin.

Sniped for just a modest premium over the price of a common coin.
