How tough is it to find a PCGS or NGC slabbed 1921-D PL or DMPL Morgan?

Just wondering as they seem few and far between on eBay and Heritage.

It's very rare to find any PLs for any 1921 morgan. And DMPL would be exceedingly rare.

I found a "Blanchard" flip here locally about 6 months ago . . . thought the 1921 Morgan had a chance at 65. It did . . .and came back 65PL PCGS. Looked it up on all the priceguides . . .and asked the Forum members to give any thoughts as to value. Only response I got was one member who said it was a minimum of $500. Sold it to a dealer for $550 . . .he flipped it for $650 a month later. That's all I know on pricing . . . but it was a Philly . . . not a tougher Denver. However . . I did the same checking you are probably doing . . . and ANY PL or DMPL would be rare . . .

  • You might look at the Dr. Hoffnagle Collection at Heritage if you want a prooflike NGC 1921 Morgan or two.image

I need an opinion on a 1921-S in a SEGS slab marked MS64 "DIE POLISHING LINES OBVERSE". The obverse looks like it was rubbed with an SOS pad, but the item description and slab says they are raised polishing lines. They're asking $125. I'm a poor man and only paid that kind of money for a 1928-P to complete my Peace dollar set. Is it worth it? How do you think it would grade elsewhere?

It is die polish, which is quite common for 21S. I'd say it would have a max grade of 63 at PCGS or NGC.

pm sent -- I have a `21-d in 64pl, graded by PCGS, if anyone is interested.

By the way, I also have `21-d in 65pl and 62pl, both NGC.
