71-D Clashed Die -vs- RDV-006 Ike Results

Over the Summer, I bought a Clashed Die Obverse 71-D Ike Dollar out of curiosity
more than anything. It kinda looked like a curl coming out of Ike's temple. Some have
one curl, some have 2...I think they are the talons of the eagle.
Now, with SemperFi bringing up the RDV-006 Ike Dollar Variety.....I went digging into
my 71-D inventory to see if I could find any. I think DRG came up with a few after
going through 900 71-D's.
However, I also thought I would ALSO check for that "curl" clashed die in the process.
What the heck?.....I'm diggin' out all the 71-D's anyways.
In my high-end (on deck to be sent in raw Ikes)....I found (2) 006's and (2) of the
"curl-in-the-temple" clashed die. One had 2 curls visible and also had good clash marks
on the reverse as well.
In my already slabbed Ikes, the results were quite different!...I had (9) clashed die 71-D's and
ZERO 006's!! Most of the clashed dies were on the obverse (curl visible)....but only
(2) were early enough stages to have the clashed die marks on both the obverse AND reverse.
This could tell me a little about BOTH varieties......Maybe the 006's are of poorer quality, similar to the
71-S MS Peg Leg Variety,....Maybe the 006's are just rarer than the clashed dies,....or maybe the
71-D clashed dies were of better quality than the 006's.
What I can't believe, is that I've NEVER noticed these (curls on the 71-D's Ike's temple) before!
I mean,.....heck....I had to go through LOTS of rolls to come up with the 71-D's I have slabbed.
Looking at them all quite closely to determine if they were "worthy" enough to be sent in.
In all those rolls....I NEVER NOTICED THE DANG CURL!.....and they seem to be on quite a lot
of them (WAY more common than the that 006 one...at least in my inventory).
The only other clashed die obverse and reverse I have ever found was a 76-D Type 2.
Have any of you other Ike, Modern or Error collectors heard of this clashed die 71-D Variety?
Does it have reference number?
Have any of you Ike Collectors REALLY checked out your 71-D slabbed Ikes lately?
