Well, I finally got this in today, Ebay $4.95, The seller sent me the wrong item by mistake and sent the other guy my Ike. Then the seller sent me 5 bucks and a new label, and guess i was lucky, the guy returned the coin, took him almost a month. But it's here, Now someone tell me, is it worth cracking out and getting slabbed? and will the Blue toning pass? I can't say that i have ever seen one that has this ice blue coloring.

I just busted all of mine out to put in a Library of Coins Generic Dollar album. The Ike set with all the regular issues, clad proof, 40% silver MS and PR's look great in the album together.

<< <i>Hey, This coin came in a Brown Mint box, $4.95 is what i paid, 5 bucks for postage and handling? It also had the receipt of the person who ordered it in 1971, I am not sure about the toning, as for value i have less than 10.00 invested. I kind of like the toning, so, why acetone it? I'm sure that it has to be worth more than i paid. Can anyone tell me what it would grade? Should i crack it out for submission? or let well enough alone? Bottom line what is the thing worth? Did i get burned? or should i have it slabbed? C'mon Ike guy's i just want some opinions? >>
The original price on these from the mint was $10. They can typically be purchased from dealers for about $5 and the vast majority of them still in the original holders will have this blue haze on them. Although some here have said Yuk, I have also seen many people here rave about the beautiful toning once they get put into a PCGS slab. This is not toning though, it is a film deposited on the coin by some kind of outgassing of the plastic in the holder. I wouldn't bother having it slabbed since it does not show any strong cameo contrast. Most likely it would come back as a PF 64 -67 and still be worth less than the slabbing fees.
Personally I have never liked the blue haze on the silver Ikes and will not buy them that way in the origianl holders. I have paid $8 to $12 for them already slabbed, but that was because I needed the slab variety not because I wanted the coin.
