Well I did it, I bought my first Carson City Piece (Pics inc)

Here it is image

imageimage

It has been struck over something else as well, I can clearly see something else under the words of Carson City, might be a double strike, or stuck over something else image

Anyone have any info on these?

Looks like it may be made from Brass, there was an assortment of about 30 dfferent types from all over the US, this one struck me because of it's guarantee image

Seriously, the Carson City grabbed me, I was wondering if anyone had any info on these tokens.

Thanks,
Ray

PS. It was purchased as a conversational piece so don't think your bursting anyones bubble when you tell me it's not from CC, nor that it's not a coin image

I have a couple of those made by the same person, they are modern reproductions image

Neat conversation pieces, though. I've been collecting genuine brothel tokens lately, but in the process have aquired a bowl full of modern replicas which sit on the coffee table in my living room, I find it gives good fuel for guests to make witty comments on my morality image.

Here's one I just purchased from a dealer on this forum...

As far as additional information on the tokens, well, they're exactly what they appear to be, in-house currency for houses if ill repute image. As far as the ones that are 'Good for One Screw', you would generally pay the pimp, mistress, or bartender in advance and then the girl you selected would just take the token and not have to handle cash, they would get paid based on the amount of tokens they turned in at the end of the day.

What are really fun to collect are room keys for the old west/mid-west oriental brothels. They generally have rather elaborate 'tails' on them (Keychains).

the reason they where called (and some are still called) chicken ranches in nevada even to this day

as during the 1800's most/many customers where cash poor farmers and paid for their services rendered in chickens
