Web site suggestions for PSA Registry

As an application developer, I have to say I am not thrilled with the PSA web site for the set registry. I think it could be improved with several fairly simple implementations:
Link to "My Sets" (this is such a no-brainer, I can't believe you don't have it, but if you do, I haven't found it, so it's not obvious enough)
Search Sets by Player Name (not just a big list to scroll through)
Link to full all-time list within sets. This would help research into card covenance, as well as provide better awareness of the relationship of current sets vs. all-time sets.
When I'm viewing my set, why don't I see a link to the other top sets in that category? I get a button to view my other sets, which is good, but I should also be able to compare my set against others easily.

I think you could build some great additions to the website and the registry pretty easily. Don't overpay, but hire someone qualified and reputable to design the functionality!

  • Most of those concerns are in there.Maybe the navigation is not as simple as you could create?

Are you the person who posted the Kaline cards on e-bay last week? The auctions with the really nice photos and graphics?

  • Yeah, I am, but that's really simple stuff. With today's web development tools (i.e. ASP.NET and VB.NET) you can do a great job with user interface for little more than the cost of a web server with IIS and .NET, and a good programmer. Good programmers are available, if you know what to look for. Then again, I'm looking for them in my current job and have been impressed with two out of about 40 resumes I've reviewed.

Honestly, I haven't used this website a whole lot, other than to register my Kaline and Ryan sets and look around a little. If these functions are easily accessible and I just haven't learned how to use them, shame on me. But if they are difficult to find or use, I'd look into improving the interface.
  • I think they should have an option that allows you to "compare" sets. You should be able to checkmark however many set you want to view at one time, and it would list the grades for each side by side, so you could easily see which cards someone else has in a higher grade than you do.

But the one that would be EXTREMELY NICE is this... When you pull up the submission form online, there should be an option for how many cards you are going to send in (or rather how many lines you need on your submission form) and it would adjust to that number. The standard 25 lines often get exceeded. Plus I think it would make PSA more money, there are times when people have 26 or 27 cards they want to submit, but because of the added effort to make another page for the 26th card, they only send in 25, and hold the other card or two until the next submission, at which time they may decide they don't want it graded, or they have already picked up a graded copy.

anyone else think this would make life a lot easier???

Absolutely. I always wondered why the online submission form isn't more user-friendly. A form with more lines for entries would be easier for us to fill out, and probably easier for the staff to enter and record the data. I would guess this is not a new suggestion, either.

  • yes, I emailed someone at PSA about it maybe 6 months ago (can't remember who) but I would assume Joe O has heard this many times. It wouldn't take a programmer long at all to adjust the online form, I guess its just a matter or PSA not wanting to pay them.
  • I would like to see a "pop report" summary at the top of each set showing how many 7's, 8's, 9's, etc. are contained in the set.

  • Well, after fumbling around for a while again, I think I've finally figured out how to get to "My Sets", which I still think should be easier. I click on "Register/Edit Set" and I can get there after logging in. I think there should be a link directly to Login, or to My Sets, which would of course necessitate a login or a cookie.

I don't want to Register or Edit a set, I just want to go to my sets, something similar to the Set Summary I can eventually get to if I go through some unobvious steps.

Another problem I have is that I have somehow registered my Nolan Ryan set twice, and it is now both #7 and #8 on the current finest list in the Topps Basic Set. One has 11 more cards registered... I just realized that it's because of the Tiffanies. Originally, the Tiffanies were not included in the Topps Basic Set. I guess after they were added it became a new set? Or did I just start over and reregister the same set with the addition of the Tiffanies?

Anyway, now I don't know which set to delete. When I click on Delete Set, it offers me a dropdown with my sets in it... only problem is, both Ryan sets have the same name "Baseball - John Cosyn - Nolan Ryan Topps Player Set".

I guess if I delete the good one, I can always go back and edit the old one. Or can I? Apparently I couldn't (or couldn't figure out how to) do it the first time I tried. image

I guess I could delete them both and start over. That would be a time killer. Hey, maybe I can update all my scans again, like I did earlier this month!

    Hi Cosyn,
I could be wrong, but Tiffanies are not normally part of a basic set. Could it be that you have registered a basic and a master set? When I checked the Ryan basic set, number 7 is titled "KWWS Collection" and set eight is called "Farabough Family Collection". Are both of those your sets? Check the Basic list and the master list and see if that clears it up.

When technical lingo like this goes right over my head, all I can think of is the voice of Charlie Brown's teacher talking to him in class. You all know the voice I'm talking about.

No, they are both listed in the Nolan Ryan Topps Player Set. I'm at #7 and #8 on the all-time finest, but I don't know why I have two sets listed when I only own one.

I'm going to try to fix this. I still would like to know how to get to the all-time finest list for a set when I'm viewing my own. I have been clicking through to get to the player set I want to look at, but I think if I'm looking at my Nolan Ryan Topps Player Set, I should be able to click on something that takes me directly to the all-time finest list for that set (or better yet, allows me to compare my cards by year and grade against others, as has been suggested.)

    John,

Don't waste any more time looking for the link. It is not there. I have suggested this several times over the past few years, but I guess it's not a priority.

It is ridiculous to have to "back out" of the current page by clicking on a few additional links to get to the Registry list. There should be a direct link.
