I love those sets. I've owned about 6 of them. The costs of them seem to be going down a little from a year ago.

Another great thing about these sets are the number of coins you get. 15 specimen coins for $300 or so. $20/coin on average. Not bad.

Tom, congratulations, that looks like a nifty set. In addition to being frequently hairlined a lot of these sets were shipped with the coins in the box and no padding on top. The coins come out of the shallow depressions and go walk about banging into each other and causing edge grazes. A set that does not have either of the above difficulties is both lovely and quite scarce.

Sorry to hear that but I'll take a few nicks over hairlines any day. It's worth an extra $5-10 to get the seller to ship the coins separately in flips. Or tissue paper over the coins then a layer of thin bubble wrap over that will keep things pretty much under control if rubber bands are used to hold the case firmly together. I share this as a lesson I learned the hard way.

I wonder how many complete sets remain... even at $300 it seems a steal compaired to what a US 1937 proof set would cost.

26,402 of the 1937 15 coin Proof Sets were minted. I agree they are a good buy at today's prices, when you can find a nice one.

I think I got a good deal at £150 including insured shipping from England. That was about $290. Less than $20 per coin

Like Joe V. said, try to find a 1937 US proof set for that price.
