This is fairly common on the early '40's cents, especially S mint. It's not unusual
to find just the last digit filled in.

It might also be a 1949S, but it looks more to me like a '47. The shape of the 4 and the mint mark style is the reason.

I saw that when I first saw the cent.

I've a handful of 194x-S cents. I always figured they were 1946 or 1947 judging by the number of other examples I've seen with a weak last digit, but I have no idea how to tell for sure what's what. I guess I need to get one of them Lincoln cent books.
