I agree. I'll pass. Scans appear stolen. Looks like his "buddy" gave him that positive feedback on the Mantle lot, if the lot really ever existed which it probably didn't.
  • Plus, seller's only feedback is from a buyer that has only two feedbacks in the last two years. Now this buyer springs 16 ger on baseball cards?
And did anyone notice that the buyer of the first mantle lot left feedback, 14 minutes after the auction ended? Suprise, this same buyer is winning the second mantle auction that ends today!

Something is very wrong here . Run fast and take the checkbook.
  • the buyer of the mantle card run must have lived next door and just happened to have $7,000 cash ready to pay the seller. seller says he paid within 10 minutes and buyer says he picked them up in 20 minutes. at least get the BS straight!

So the buyer of the Mantle lot paid $7K within minutes of winning and then went to the seller's house a few minutes later and picked it up on Christmas Day? Now that's customer service. What a coincidence, too, that they happen to live on the same street.

Ho ho. One of the bidders is "beware-this-auction."

This is the hinkiest scam I've seen in a while. I love the guys description of one card:
"It is in excellent condition and will grade nm-mint guaranteed."

Beware-this-auction is now high bidder on all the vintage cards.

If beware-this-auction is a CU forum member and is reading this thread...I applaud you. Scambusters like beware-this-auction are ebay heros - saving collectors hundreds and thousands of dollars.
  • i turned into ebay for shill bidding on fraudulent auctions, lets see how long till he's NLARU--or if they let him continue.
  • I see that his nieghbor (person that bought the mantle's) is the high bidder on the 33 Goudey psa 2. He must have some more cash to run over for his neighbor.

"beware-this-auction" was outbid. Seller doesn't even know how to block bids or remove them

Anyone live in this area. His says local pickups are accepted. Win something run over there and pick it up.

    I'd bring the police with.

When I was a kid I would pretend to be a DJ, playing the same dozen 45's over and over (That's all I had). I was also a listener and would call in requests.

"Please play 'Ride Captain Ride' again, Mr. DJ!"

(Deep announcer's voice) "Why sure, Johnny. That's one of our most requested songs! Would you like to hear 'Good Vibrations' and 'Last Train to Clarksville' after that?"

I'm reminded of that by this seller and his buyer who comes to his house with $7,000 in hand to pick up the cards on Christmas Day, a few minutes after winning the auction.

"Here's your $7,000. Are those the Mantles? Wow, just like you said in the auction. Thanks! I'm running right home to give you feedback. Merry Christmas!"

"No problem, neighbor! I've got some other cool stuff ending in a couple days. A Babe Ruth, and an Aaron rookie, and an uncut Goudey sheet, and even a 1986 Bonds! It would be great if you won all those too, since we are next-door neighbors. You save on shipping charges!"

"OhmyGod! I want those! But what if somebody else bids higher than me? Can you end the auctions early and sell them to me? There's more cash where this came from."

"I'm afraid that wouldn't be right. An auction is an auction. Good luck on your bids!"
  • Asked the seller to come join us, and discuss his auction. He responded quickly :

"I joined the website, but have to wait for them to approve my profile. I don't understand why it is so hard to understand. I am a broker, I find these cards online at various places and sell them for a profit. If everyone read the listings completely they wold see this, I clearly state that i am a broker and that if in the event the item is no longer available at the auctions end, then I will refund money or issue credit, which ever the buyer prefers. I am just bringing merchandise to ebay, anyone can find these cards online the same as me, and if they are that concerned about getting them through me, then let them find them elsewhere.

Thanks for letting me know about the forum, and I will reply as soon as they approve my profile. "

I love the description in the Payton RC auction. To wit:

<< <i>You are bidding on a 1976 Topps Walter Payton rookie card in near mint condition.

There aren't many of his rookie cards graded, let alone graded at a 7 or higher!!!!! >>

Yes, there aren't too many graded Walter Payton RC's out there. Only one of the single greatest football cards of the last 50 years, and there aren't too many of them graded. And, it's an amazing BVG 7! Give me a break. image

This "broker" really knows very little about the items he's selling. He really should go to school if he's going to sell valuable cards on eBay.

Do you like the part where he says in the posted response above ... "in the event the item is no longer available at the auctions end, then I will refund money or issue credit." Meaning he thinks he can refuse to sell, once the auction is done. He doesn't know eBay rules, apparently.

Oh wait ... I just remembered the basic truth about these specific auctions. Sheesh. image

The seller's buddy who "bought" the Mantle lot is now NARU. Hopefully NARU will also be a comin' soon to this seller.

In the absence of an escrow that is in possession of an item before auctioning ends, it is nearly impossible to make a seller complete the transaction if the seller refuses. The best a buyer can hope fo is a total refund.

  • magic--all his auctions disappeared!
  • another complete joke

If the eBay ID that "bought" the Mantles is NARU, presumably for shilling, and the current auctions are killed, presumably for shilling and because they're obvious scams ... why isn't the seller also NARU?

I look forward to him coming here and discussing his card brokerage business after CU "approves his profile."
  • what's amazing about these scammers is they are not only (bad) crooks but compulsive liars as well!image
