I got a new Digital Camera for Christmas, so here's my first two coin pictures. (Warning. Big Pict

I got a Sony DSC-P73, and I'm just starting to get to know how to use it. I was finally able to capture the proper yellow color on my 1880 half-eagle, and I also decided to photograph a toned Lincoln that I got in change a few days ago. (Though the penny has obviously been harshly cleaned in the past image) I'm just happy that I can now take pictures of my coins. image

First, the penny:

Now the Ealge:

In the future I hope to get some fluorescent lighting to help get rid of the yellow/orange tinge the incandescent lighting is giving. But for someone brand new to photography, I think I did alright. image
I collect the elements on the periodic table, and some coins. I have a complete Roosevelt set, and am putting together a set of coins from 1880.

Jdurg: Congrats on your new Sony. If you are in need of an uncleaned 1939 cent we could always put up a collection on your behalf!image

K6AZ: Congrats to you too on your new Nikon.

  • Hehe. Thanks for the compliments. I hope to take more pictures of some coins I have during the next week. (Got to love those week long vacations from work). Actually, because that Lincoln has toned such a nice set of colors, the fact that it was cleaned isn't too big a deal for me. (The Lincoln Pennies are one of the many sets I'm working on, but not really with too much vigour. I think that once I get the rest of my Roosevelt Proofs, I'll move on to either the Kennedy Halves or Jefferson Nickels).

  • I now realize just how important the lighting is. My previous pictures were taken under a plain, 60 watt light-bulb and everything had this brown/yellow tint to it. I moved up to a 'whiter light' 100 watt bulb, and the pictures I took are much neater. Later today, I'm going to go out and get those fluorescent bulbs that fit in normal lamps. This way I'll have a much cleaner light source. (I've also learned that it's really hard to photograph high cameo coins).
