I have no problem giving a 65....anything higher than that is outside of my experience. image

    Nice coin, and good photo!
    Easily distracted Type Collector
  • Nice pics... no comments on the coin, but here's my comments on the picture image

You need to fix the white balance... you can either do this manually on your camera, or you can fix it in your photo editing software... but I recomment it on the camera, sometimes the photo editing software will do funky things, especially with toned coins...

Also, need a little more light, especially on the bottom of the coin... move the camera back a little bit, and even shoot at a slight angle, with the coin out in front of the camera a little bit... 2 lights should be fine, positioned at 10 and 2 o'clock, or there abouts, always adjusted for each coin image But, I think that'll improve your pictures a lot image Oh, and they lights don't need to be right up on top of the coins, try and place them a little bit back from the coin image

the coin-----MS65 unless it gets the "O Mint" bump.

photographic skill-----8 on a scale of 10, with 10 being the high point.

George, when I change the White balance on the camera, what am I looking for it to change in the picture. Im having trouble seeing how the picture should look different. Thanks (Besides the obvious dark bottom)

I would have guessed 65, but I also would have said that it's hard to grade on pictures this large and detailed because they tend to make even very minor flaws that might barely affect the grade look noticeable.

    65 (NGC 66) Looks Like a 1891-CC "Spitting Eagle"

It depends on the camera, and I am not familar with Nikkons... image But, it should have several different settings for different types of lights... in most enviornments, the auto is fine, but with coins, you need to set it to what kind of lights you're using, or on some models you can manually adjust the white balance... a good way to test it, is to take a page of white printer paper, put it in the field of focus of the camera, and adjust the white balancec til the paper looks normal in the LCD screen image

    Thanks that helps George!
  • Lookin better... try moving the lights to 3 and 9 o'clock, move the coin forward a little bit, and tilt the camera up from where it was, until you've got the coin in view... experiment... fill you memory card with pictures of the coin and lights in different positions... see what works image
