Newp.......1880 S Morgan

Just got this in the mail and I can say pretty comfortably that it's the nicest Morgan I have owned. It is difficult to capture the surfaces just right as both Obverse and Reverse are Proof Like with full luster. This one's going for a cross over at PCGS ASAP!!!!!

A few hits on the neck and under the eagles right wing, but nice coin. whats it graded now? where'd you get her?
Family, kids, coins, sports (playing not watching), jet skiing, wakeboarding, Big Air....no one ever got hurt in the air....its the sudden stop that hurts. I hate Hurricane Sandy. I hate FEMA and i hate the blasted insurance companies.

I'm looking at the date on your coin...can you tell me what's going on there ??

Here is a pic of an 82 I received last week that has the same thing going on

  • Very nice coin. I'm particularly fond of that year. (Next year I plan on starting an 1880 collection where I'll try to get a sample of every coin from the year 1880. This will take me quite a bit of time and money to accomplish).
I collect the elements on the periodic table, and some coins. I have a complete Roosevelt set, and am putting together a set of coins from 1880.

It's in an old PCI holder from 87 or 88 and the coin is graded MS66. It was purchased on Ebay with the hopes that it would cross or get an upgrade from PCGS. I am 90% sure it will cross, but I don't see any chance for an Upgrade to a 67 from what I can see.

Still a really nice coin with just some minor hits in the fields with virtually perfect devices. image

What are you seeing on the date???? I haven't looked at it with a loop or check for VAMS yet?
  • The date and stars appear to have, don't know how else to explain it, raised metal. on my coin I would guestimate it to 1/64th to 1/32 nd of an inch higher then the date and stars....Am I making any sense at all???

  • You might have an overdate or some doubling that extends to the stars as well as the date, but I looked at mine under and 18X loop and don't see anything going on. I did find what looks like and RPM though....

So I believe it might be a VAM 7???
