  • I bought a number of coins from him about 5-7 years ago. Very easy to
work with and all of the coins (1936-42 PCGS proofs, a few Walkers) were
    top-notch.

Since he has been dealing primarily in bullion and modern commemoratives
the past few years, I have not bought from him recently. I certainly wouldn't
hesitate to purchase something I wanted from him again.

As I remember, they got into trouble a number of years ago over some investment programs they ran.

I've bought thousands of dollars in coins from Tulving, gold bullion, modern commems, etc. Never a problem, always excellent service.

Haines Tulving ran into some legal trouble a number of years ago, but he runs his online business very well and you should not have any concerns dealing with him. He does have a $500 minimum order now.

I hadn't noticed the dollar amount for his minimum. From the website:

    << <i>Minimum Gold Order Is 15 Ozs. >>

<< <i>NOTE: ANY Special Can Be Purchased By Itself!!. >>

. The specials are pretty sizable too. I wouln't mind if Santa brought me the 1 Kilo 2005 Rooster image

"Gat is correct. " True but that's ancient history.

I just wonder what's happened recently. Within the last few months all of the PCGS slabbed commemoratives, SAEs, GAEs, and platinum seem to have disappeared from his site.

He was running a high profile "investment" type biz in SoCal many years ago and indeed had some legal troubles with investors and/or regulators. I have no idea about his current business practices.
  • He is still in business.

I bought some coins from him in about 1988 and returned them after about 3 months.

received a full refund from them.

Actually worked with his brother about 4 years ago !

Story was, overgraded this and ponzi scheme that, none was ever proven.

He offered to submit all coins to NGC for grading at cost.

    Stipulated settlement i think

  • Hannes Tulving is a good guy. I bought a bunch of bullion from him in '99 and '01, he was easy to work with, all emails were replied to promptly, he shipped fast in excellent packaging. I purchased bullion raw (2x2 heat sealed saflips!), in pcgs slabs, and a few things in capital plastic holders, all are very nice (no coin vault thumbprints in the middle of the fields). If you don't see it on his website, it's worth emailing and asking, in 2001 he put a 4-coin gold eagle set in capital plastic holder for me and let me 'get around' the 10oz. gold rule he had then.
Varieties are the spice of a Type Set.

    Need more $$$ for coins?
  • I've placed three orders with him over the last couple of months, and everything has gone smoothly. He seems to have found a niche of selling bullion at a skinny margin but high volume.

A search would probably turn up threads that go into all the details of his history. Everything I've heard lately is that he is great to deal with.

The guy is great to deal with. Got everything I ordered right away and it was well packed and sent express mail. The prices were also better then I could have gotten them for even if I bought them raw and slabbed them myself.
  • Bought some bullion from Tulving, wired the money, had coins the next day. Just like ordering a pizza.
I'd rather be lucky than good.

  • First class in my book!
Numerous dealings in the past few years.
Most of his prices are decent if not great.
Don't hesitate to buy from him.

He has a good deal on the upcoming 2005 Silver Eagles,
The coins will say "First Strike" on the PCGS slab.
