Are you picking out any of the sports stuff you're getting for Christmas?

Most of us are probably hard to buy for, at least to family/friends who aren't collectors themselves. In that vein, did you get asked this year to pick out any of your own Christmas presents?

I did - during a local card store closing sale, I was told to pick out a couple items that would show off well as Christmas presents from my girlfriend's daughter. I picked out a Frank Thomas auto'ed 8x10 in a plaque and a faded McGwire auto'ed 8x10 (framed) at deep discounts and will be getting them on Saturday.

Glad you asked - I picked out half of a 1944 American Beauties set in PSA 8 (mostly) w/a couple of 9o/cs - it's wrapped and waiting for me. Will Saturday ever come?

That's pretty darn cool! Did you see anything at the shop you would pick out for yourself?
My wife went over to the local shop for Bowman Heritage and he didn't have it. And I have purchased enough stuff in the last two months to keep me full.
Thanx for sharing Nick and Merry Christmas!!

PS: Mark - your present is incredible!!! I was considering the set - maybe after I finish my graded baseball set.

  • The wife asked what was the one thing I wanted for Xmas and I told her two original seats from Yankee Stadium. Think I'll get em? HELL NO!! That would be the ultimate Xmas present.

Picked out a PSA 9 Fingers rookie for my HOF rookies registry set. Bought it from fellow board member Teemu. It's a beauty!

The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Stone - I decimated their inventory in certain areas (especially supplies, hockey, and modern inserts). I even bought the store's clock (it says Donruss on the face).

Absolutely cool - how old do you think it is and where did it come from?
If you have a dig camera and get bored one day...can you post a pic?

    Merry Christmas

Donruss gave it out as a promo item to dealers years ago at an industry trade show (probably the Kit Young Hawaii show). I'll take a pic someday. LOL

I got some nice items (older wax) for myself to open this Christmas - and once the excitement dies down a bit tommorrow afternoon, that is exactly what I am going to do.

I just made a post in the Johnny Oates thread about my dad.. He brought me several packs of Bowman Heritage as a Christmas present earlier!

I pulled a Todd Helton jersey card, thats about it.. but out of all the new product out, my dad knew exactly which cards i would enjoy opening!

    Merry Christmas!

Mike - I bought a 1977 wax box, and 2 1977 vending boxes. I am still waiting for my 1974 wax box from Mastro, if it was here I might be tempted to crack that one open also! Merry Christmas!

Being GF-less this year, no one of my immediate circle understands the hobby, and has no clue what to get me even if they wanted to. I made it very simple by sending my Dad, the only one who is computer-literate, a link to ebay searches for Bowman Heritage boxes. Under the tree for me was a small Bowman-Heritage-box-shaped box. Eagerly, I got through the cards and the inevitable Lowe's gift card from my uncle, and ripped it. It was a box set of 4 Humphrey Bogart DVDs. Normally, I'd be thrilled, but I already have 3 of them and I was never too keen on the fourth (Key Largo). But then he gave me a Christmas card with a note saying my Heritage box is on the way. Thanks, Dad.

Two boxes would've been out of the question?
