Ugh!

I just sold a card on ebay. The buyer pays with paypal, and tells me how to ship it:Card saver with cardboard, topload w/cardboard in a snap case. He wants it indestructable because he has a "smallish" mail box. The card was a 1986-87 Fleer Julius Erving. I started the bidding at .99,and it sold for .99.
The price is my fault, and I only charge $1.00 shipping. Anyway,he has no address w/paypal,so I have no protection. Can I cancel his bid?He has very good feedback, but he seems like he's asking a lot.

He is asking a lot, and you can ignore him, but you are violating eBay rules if you refuse to honor the winning bid. I'm guessing for $1 shipping you basically put the card in a toploader and a 37-cent envelope. You can do that if you want, or use a small bubble envelope and add a little cardboard stiffener for protection. Worst case, he you owe him 99 cents if it arrives damaged.

But don't cancel his bid, you don't want it to look like sour grapes over the sale price. In fact, I don't think you can cancel bids after the auction ends.

Protection from what? You're talking $2! If he wants special shipping, I would accomodate him as long as he pays for whatever he requests.

  • I usually put the card in a soft sleeve, then toploader, then put cardboard on either side. I have no problem shipping the card.I just have never had a paypal notification with no address. It's usually unconfirmed. Also, yes its only $1.99, but would you just throw your money away?

Just e-mail the guy, say how you do it standard, and if he doesn't like that, you'll refund his shipping charge and he can do SASE or you'll let him out of the transaction.

    Sandwich it between two bricks.
  • I think I'll let him know my standard way(which I have never had a problem with). I just don't like it when people tell you how to ship cards(its not like I haven't done it before!).
I still don't get his having no address with paypal. I thought this was required? He is also a seller.
    Thanks for all your help.
  • a #000 padded envelope and postage will cost less than a $1 to ship
  • Wow, $1.00 for shipping. I just got charged $9.00 for shipping for 1 psa graded card. But I really wanted the card and I got it a lot cheaper than it would have normally gone for, like 20 bucks cheaper. I'm expecting very good packaging, no, great packaging!

I would think selling cards for a buck would be more hassle than it would be worth.
Culpepper to ?, only God knows at this point!

Just put the sucker in a toploader and then in a business envelope and fold the envelope in half and tape sides. Mail it and forget about it. You can always say you didn't read his email correctly.

Email him and state that special handling is $4.50

for 1.00 you get a used 000 bubble mailer and 60 cents postage

see what he sez after that
    Good for you.
  • I actually use a 00 bubble envelope. It costs .60 for postage. I think I will rate my rates at the beginning of the year. I'm waiting for the buyer to email me back.
