Teletrade Question (Relisted Item)

There's an auction for a particular nickel that sold on Nov 15 2004, and now the same exact coin is up for auction next week. Is this common? My main fear is that TT is reusing a photo.

Happens all the time on TT.
  • Teletrade doesn't re-use photos. The coin may have been returned and re-auctioned, or maybe there was a credit problem...

I meant what Johnscoin said. Just to clarify.
  • ah, thank you
  • teletrade does re-use photos on the same coin

buyer may not have liked coin and returned it

owner may have been shilling up during the auction and got it deciding to resel

This happens a lot, especially with coins that don't meet the reserve. But when that happens, usually the coin is rescheduled very shortly after not selling. That more than a month has passed probably indicates, as others have noted, that the coin was sold, shipped out and returned -- or perhaps won by a deadbeat.
  • excellent question - and did you know T.T considers a coin SOLD and add's it to their " PRICES REALIZED" records ............. EVEN IF THE COIN IS RETURNED !! ??image

I watched one particular seated quarter "sell" 6 times before I stopped tracking it. I was the dummy who bit on the 2nd sale. I was not aware it had been put up once already. It was an 1890 quarter in MS68 that had a "divot" hole in the right obv field. I watched it go up for sale 4 more times. The time elapse was over a year. Needless to say, their policy of a max of 2-3 auctions before it gets returned to the seller might be in error. Of course they could have returned it to the seller and then taken it right back again for another 3 tries! They also may have owned the coin.image

Nothing with TT should surprise you. I consider their sales to be "fixed" price sales with bidding allowed to higher levels.

  • Do you think TT needs more regulation?....I mean it seems like shill bidding could be rampant on TT since you cannot see all the bidders (and their feedback rating, etc, like ebay)
  • Shill bidding is rampant everywhere, but is only successful if we let it be. Have a price in mind, and simply don't go over it. If everyone did this, then shill bidding would not exist or be needed, as long as the seller has set a reserve price just in case there is only one single bidder on an item.
  • Wednesday, TT had 11 modern MS70 $ commems in the auction. None sold, but the last bids were at least 20% over market. It's hard for me to believe someone paid those buyback fees.
  • Most definitly ; somethings that go on at/inside TT are dubious to say the least. I recently bid on and won an eleven piece set of Proof PCGS PF-69 DCAM Ikes ; described as a unique opportunity to buy what may will be one of the finest Monster sets that TT had EVER auctioned !! i was thrilled to win -until i checked back a year or so and found a at least 10 other Unique sets WITH THE EXACT SAME DESCRIPTION !!!! image

Much of this stuff doesn't actually sell. After watching common date saints and $20 Libs (and all other generic 63-64 gold) "bring" 10% over market routinely it was quite clear these were just traps looking for a fish to bite. And if one should bite, they could go out and pick up the coins they need to fill the order in about 5 minutes.
