Searching for "FULL" bands, steps, head, etc--are they certain dies.

Here is a hypothetical question. When searching for "FULL" something coins, could we really be searching out certain die pairs? In other words if there are only a few "FULL" something for specific years, could these all be from the same die pair? The 1945 Mercury dime could be a good example. These things are so few, could they all be from the same dies. What do you think???

I'd think that the production facilities/management at the mint made certain choices. Such as die spacing, which when too far apart will create weak strikes. In 1945 it is possible that since they knew they had to pump out a huge number of coins (there was a huge mintage that year) they needed to preserve as many dies as possible. Die spacing increase would do just that.

    Just a thought.

Die spacing is only one part of the poor quality. Many of the 1945 Dimes I've seen are die clashed.
