Spots On A '09 VDB, Will They Cause Additional Harm?

This 1909 VDB has a nice red color. But it also has two spots on the
obverse fields, and some small black specks reverse (I assume carbon spots). Will
these stay as they are, or in your experience, will these spots grow, multiply or
otherwise harm this Lincoln?

  • There is probably a little something, a speck or piece of something on the coin causing the spot. It will grow unless the reason for the spot is removed. Acetone can be used to stop what is occuring and I suggest you remove the coins, inspect them and remove what is causing the spotting.

Oh it is in a slab... Hmmm don't know what to say. send it in to PCGS for grade guarantee, and let them fix the coin and pay you the difference. It is probably thier fault anyway. i once had a piece of bread come back in a lincoln holder from PCGS. In fact I still have it somewhere.
