Looks like someone did a bucket fill to make the background black and some of the black leaked onto the coin. Could be nice.... The reverse detail looks good.

Oh, I can see why you have that hunch. Something tells me my hunch is very similar to yours.

It could very well be that the seller's dark, lackluster picture worked to your advantage, and made you a nice cherrypick. I wouldn't be surprised at all! Imagine those colors with a bit o' luster behind 'em. Hmmm...
