  • Looks to me like a lot of over graded stuff. The "one coin in question looks like a 63 PL of maybe 63 DMPL. I wouldn't bid any higher than that and that may be generous. image

Please, take my advice. Do not go near a PL or DMPL in a gold label PCI holder sight unseen. You are just asking for major disappointments.

I used to collect DMPL Morgans almost exclusively, so here's my 2 cents worth. Do not EVER buy any DMPL dollars on ebay unless they are in a reputable holder (PCGS, NGC, ANACS). If they are uncertified, they will surely have hairlines in the fields and will never slab at PCGS. PCGS is best by far for DMPL's, but you will encounter a lot of competition in auctions. NGC and ANACS are OK but their resale value is usually much less than CDN Bid. For example, when I have sold ANACS DMPL Morgans on ebay with no reserve, I have received an average of 40% of Bid. PCI (gold) and SEGS coins are in 3rd world holders mostly because PCGS and NGC would not slab them. DMPL dollars are one of the toughest things to buy, and a lot of people want them. That's why I quit collecting them. If I had to do it again, I'd buy PCGS coins only in order to protect my investment.

You think the photo's are enhanced???? some of them look pretty good.

  • There are incredibly tough standards for the DMPL desination at PCGS reqiring clear watery fields with usually full reflectivity of newsprint at 7"-8" distance at a minimum these days. Many NGC DPL's (NOTE: that's deep prooflike, not deep MIRROR prooflike) and ANACS DMPL Morgans are only PL's at PCGS. For the other holders, there's almost always a problem with cleaning, hairlines, false mirrors from diamond dust polishing, etc. There is enough problems with the big three TPG's----why ask for more? Save your money unless you can see the coin under high magnification and really know your stuff.

  • To answer you, no it's not the photo's, it's the coins that may be enhanced. Otherwise he'd send 'em to PCGS and sell for 2X-5X the money. Many sellers take advantage of those looking for a good deal. There are no good deals in DMPL Morgans.
