Digital Camera Help

I have a new Nikon Coolpix 5200 Digital camera and need some pointers in taking coin pictures. I placed the camera in close-up mode and was able to take some OK pictures, but nothing along the lines of some of the ones I see posted here. What other settings do you need to set to take good close-ups? I had problems with getting close enough to prevent the coin from blurring. It would look good in the viewfiender, then would white out and blur when depressing the shutter.

  • Macro mode,auto focus,work with the lighting.

I just got the 3200,works pretty well,i think a copy stand with some lamps will help greatly

  • Use a tripod.

  • Turn off your flash and try getting along without it. Use natural lighting or whatever you have available to get something you like. Check this out, I made it with a black lite, hehe:

PS: Make sure you're in macro mode and get your camera as close as you can to the coin. Good luck.

    Find lines. image

Yes, a small tripod helps. Good lighting. Macro mode. And set the white balance to the light source you're using.

Actually, it's the find edges filter in photoshop inversed. image
  • Thanks for the tips. Is macro mode different than the close-up setting on the camera?

  • Macro mode should be the close-up setting. Read your instruction booklet that came with your camera, assuming that you have one and it should tell you about things like macro mode, timer, white balance, flash and how to turn it OFF. Read and learn.

Macro mode should be a little green flower on the screen. I forget which button activates it, but it's the same one as the timed shutter release.
