Do you think either of these might upgrade??

I've been considering sending these two in for regrade, what chance do you think thay have of going to the next grade? I've owned these two coins for over 6 yrs each.

First this 1931-S is in a green lable holder MS64RD, the scratches you see on the obv are on the holder. It might go 65 but I'm concerned about the color being changed to RB.

Second is this 1909-S VDB is in an old rattler holder, MS64RB, again the holder has many scratches. I think it has a good shot to upgrade but I love the rattler holders.

So what do you all think; worth the chance or no?

    Nice coins.
It's really hard to tell the difference between what's on the holder from what's on the coin.

Both coins look very nice. It that rim damage on the 31-s? I dont think I would risk sending that one in for regrade.

The 09-s looks like the surface has small micro-ticks. Those probably limit the grade to 64 but it sure shouldn't be downgraded. IMHO you have nothing to lose by sending it in except the old holder.

Were they mine, I might give a try with the S-VDB. Not so sure about the 31-S.

I agree with the previous concern about the rim on the 31-S.... and I also wonder if they're worth more being in older holders..... image

I doubt the '31 S would go 65. The left wheat ears are weak on the right side. Also, there is apparent rim damage on obverse, 10 to 11 o'clock.

If the SVDB were mine I'd send it in for regrading since the holder has so many scratches. Could grade higher for you if you're lucky. You pay a little bit but get a fresh holder for this "show case" item. I say go for it on this one.image

Ditto, the 31S looks less likely to make it.

No not rim damage, that is the rubber insert that has squished out.

I think both could upgrade at the right moment in time, but right now pcgs is pretty tight.
  • Both are nice. I'd leave the 31-S where it is and send the 09-S-VDB back for a try.

Thanks to all for their imput. I very seldom try crossovers or regrades so it's good to have feedback from others.
