Why are some oins more collectable than others?

I've noticed, that many coins are "frowned upon" by most collectors. I know that you should collect whatever you like, but it seems that almost nobody collects Ikes or SBA dollars. Why is this?

For the most part, moderns are not collected because of their lack of artistic beauty. The Ike dollars and SBA's seem just too plain and do not gain much value over time. It's just that there are more beautiful coins to collect but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Although, some people here like Ikes and SBAs.

I have a complete collection of SBA's. There's jusy not much interest because my Morgans seem more interesting. They're toning up real pretty tho in and old album where I cut new holes to store them.

Zillions of people collect both. They are actually very popular - just easy to make fun of.

Agreed. And of course now is the right time to put away moderns like Ikes and SBAs since
they are relatively inexpensive to put away.

Forgot to say I'm starting a Kennedy Collection which also seem uninteresting, until you try to find the tougher ones in nice shape. Who cares what people think of moderns, that's what they said about Deep Prooflike Morgans years ago and I'm laughing to the bank!!

I don't know if there are zillions of us, but beside my Kennedys, I have the Ike's, SBA, and Sacagawea's. Sold the Peace collection and not a Morgan person. BTW these sets are in PCGS registery both Proof and MS. Link is to my Ike set and I'm not even in the top twenty so there are a few of the zillion here.
