how do you remove smeared autos from a helmet?

i had a helmet signed by the team at lsu. unfortunately in the process there's a bunch of smears on it. i figure there's got to be something that will harmlessly remove permanent marker smears from a football helmet. any suggestions????

basically, you don't - especially if they happened at the signing. It's like smearing a painting.
