Have You Ever Bid More To Keep Someone Else From Getting A Card?

Just got into a bidding war on a card. I bid way more than the card was worth, just because I didn't want the other guy to get it. I lost but at least I know he paid way too much for it. This is someone who has sniped me many times. I watched this one because I could tell from his bidding he wanted it. Toward the end I almost put in an obscenely high bid but my better sense said no let him have it ( I was still high bidder at the time but I knew a last second snipe was coming in).
Oh well the Ebay Wars continue.

    Very hobby friendly of you.

  • I am assuming that you already had the card. If so, I guess Id rather use the money to get something I dont already have (unless it was at a bargain price which I am also assuming is not the case here).

If you didnt have the card, although I have probably overpaid for cards in the past, I cant say that I have overbid just so someone else wouldnt win.

Its hard to have the last laugh when you just got stuck in the wallet.

That other guy should not bid at all and only snipe.
  • No I didn't have the card and I did want it. Actually the seller does benefit when a bidding war happens. The other guy isn't doing anything wrong, he's buying what he wants. It just pissed me off that he wants so much of what I want and keeps outbidding me. So the seller got more money, and I have cash available to buy other cards. Don't see how that hurts the hobby.
Believe me the other bidder will keep buying (His pockets are deeper than mine, part of what got me so annoyed).

  • In retrospect, what I did was a mistake. I'm probably on the other person's radar screen now - and he might do it to me. But fueled by a few beers I guess I was filled with "EBAY ROAD RAGE". Moral: "DON'T DRINK AND BID ON EBAY"

I don't like the idea of getting in a bidding war...I set a top price and try to hit it in the last few seconds. I usually don't bid early since that could definitely start a bidding frenzy. Anyone can get caught up in the "competition" but to be frank, I'm kind of cheap and don't like paying a lot for something.
