WHAT ARE MY CHANCES????

Never purchased one of these old PCI coins before, but it looked pretty clean so I said what the heck. So is this coin an MS65 or is their a chance it might actually grade out to a MS66 if submitted to NGC or PCGS???? The picture isn't showing a lot of luster, which concerns me a little, but I am hoping it's a little flashier in person.

If you think there's a chance for an MS66.....what are the odds....say 10% chance, 50% chance etc......Thanks image

Nice coin, in an unusual holder. I would not crack this out, since slab collecting may increase in popularity more than the prices of common date Morgans in the near future.

I think you have an excellent chance at having an upgrade there. I just bought this old photo certified morgan tonight because you can find some nice coins in those holders. I recently purchased a 21-D morgan in one of those ms63 holders, and in my opinion it's a nice 64... image

  • wow that 1881 does look better than an MS63 from what I can see in the picture.

I should have a better idea of my chances once I get the coin in hand. From a marks standpoint I say it's a MS66...but if it looks washed out or overdipped and is lacking luster than....no chance. It would be quite a buy if it makes the crossover.....otherwise I probably barely break even on an MS65.....still seems like it was worth a shot.
  • that was holdered about 87-88.

    might be ok !

If my past experience is any indication, I think you may be in for a nice surprise. I have had consistent 1-2 point upgrades of these slabs at PCGS, and this seller's images are subduing the luster. I would not be surprised to see this coin come back as a 67.

It's really going to depend on the luster. From a marks standpoint, it's pretty clean. Pic's are tough, but the coin looks flat, as far as luster goes, so from the pic, I'd say no shot whatsoever. Especially considering the date. This date usually comes very flashy and vibrant. If that "flat" look is strictly from the images, and the coin shows good cartwheels once you get it in hand, you may score.

This is my take exactly.........luster is not showing up in the picture so if it's there in hand.......I have a winner. image
