ANA 2005 CONVENTION MOVES TO CITY ON THE BAY
(Colorado Springs, CO) – American Numismatic Association (ANA) executive director, Chris Cipoletti today announced the organization’s decision to move the Summer 2005 World’s Fair of Money from San Jose to nearby San Francisco. Convention dates will remain the same: July 27 – 31.
The decision was made as a result of the San Jose’s inability to give the ANA the convention center space it needed.
Despite efforts over the last 18 months to work with the San Jose Convention and Visitor’s Bureau to obtain space on the dates needed by the ANA, San Jose could not confirm the space needed. This problem was compounded by the City Council’s December 7 vote to host a Grand Prix auto-racing event during the same weekend. The road rally would close the downtown corridor to traffic and fill area hotel rooms. San Jose could not provide the ANA with any assurances that the race would not interfere with the 2005 World’s Fair of Money.

“We hoped to find a way to work with the city of San Jose, but practical issues forced us to look for a less complicated venue,” said Cipoletti.
Contract negotiations with the Moscone West Convention Center and nearby hotels continue. The ANA anticipates being able to come to agreement on the facility and hotel arrangements before the end of the year. Meanwhile ANA officials are upbeat.
“Feedback from the Association so far has been very positive,” said Cipoletti, who noted the last ANA Summer Show in San Francisco took place in 1949. “Our goal is to announce this location change as soon as possible to assist those who are making early travel arrangements.”
Bishop also noted that it is still just a short drive into San Francisco for those members who have purchased airline tickets to San Jose.
Lysa Lewin, national account executive with the San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau is credited with finding the space and hotel rooms to make the change work.
Her efforts will likely be rewarded. According to industry estimates, the annual ANA convention attracts more than 15,000 visitors and generates between $15 and $20 million for host cities.
Information and updates regarding the ANA summer convention will be published in the February issue of Numismatist or may be obtained by calling 719.482.9871.

Fortunately I have family just south of San Francisco and just outside of Oakland, so I may be able to use some frequent flier miles and crash in someone's spare bedroom. And if I'm really lucky, someone can give me a ride to the nearest BART station, so I can save more money for coins.
What is now proved was once only imagined. - William Blake
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
<< <i>Figures, I live in the Bay area for 4 years, and as soon as I move to Massachusetts, they have the ANA in SF! >>

Cool, I work there. Who ever is coming stay away from the Tenderloin part of town. If anyone has any questions about the city or whatever feel free to ask.

what is the tenderloin part of town???????
michael
The Tenderloin is down the hill from Nob Hill (Fairmont Hotel, Mark Hopkins, etc.) towards Market Street. Mostly stay away from this area at night, but it's not pleasant during the day either.
