Man, what a disappointment. Not a single Kennedy Half.

For a little background, Kennywood Park is a 100+ year old amusement park in the Pittsburgh area (West Mifflin, to be precise). I do not have inside knowledge of the collection or its whereabouts, but I am guessing that it also resides in the "City of Champions". ANR featured an Allison Park (Pittsburgh suburb) collection at the ANA summer sale, and NGC displayed a complete collection of Liberty $20's at their table at the Pittburgh ANA. Duquesne is a university and neighborhood in Pittsburgh, as well. Some cool collections were put together in my old hometown.

I've been to Kennywood. They have some nice rollercoasters.

Looks like a lot of IHC's, I'll have to take a look when I have time.

It's not too late for Christmas! If anyone wants to pick me up a little something, here's a not-so-subtle hint:

I am as equally disappointed with the Lincolns. On top of it, the Heritage sale is mediocre at best. Wouldn't it figure, I finally have a big coin show that falls during the same week and in the same city as one of my meetings. It'll be a business expense trip. Even with a free trip, I'm still depressed about the Lincolns at auction.

Only thing I'm looking forward to now is watching Stewart and the rest of the Barber fanatics go at it!!

Does anyone have a catalog yet? I'm curious about what it says about the consignor. I know a woman who is married to one of the Kennywood Park execs and none of them know anything about the collection.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Bob, you already got the picture. What more do you need?

I don't know all the consignors, but the key date Seated Dimes, Quarters and Halves and many of the other high grade rarities came out of a midwest collection. A large enough collection to have the auction named after them.

All of the 72-CC stuff is pop 1 none higher with the exception of the dollar...

This collection of seated stuff looks far more interesting than all the other sales put together. Some very solid pieces here, ones that are really UNC. What a nice change!

Wow, that's a really nice collection. I wonder what the connection to the amusement park is? Speaking of Kenneywood and coins, I wonder what one would find if they searched under the Thunderbolt or the Jack Rabbit or out where the deadly Pippin used to be....image

This one ain't bad, if you like those ugly, nasty Barber quarters:

Catalogues are in the mail! If you don't see them before the holiday I bet you'll see them Monday or so.
You'll notice when you receive the catalogue that the "Park" has been dropped from the title, it is now just the Kennywood Collection. As it wasn't related to the amusement park in any way except a fluke in naming we decided to drop the Park.
The only named consignor in the sale (who wrote a one page biography on himself and his collection) is Kenneth H Smith. When you get your catalogues you can read his story, it's just before Dave's introduction to the sale.
Our web page should be updated shortly so you can get to the sale from the home page instead of the Auctions page.

    Happy Holidays!

Yep. Just checked again -- the main one I was looking at has more than doubled off its opening bid already and will probably go considerably higher. It's already considerably over so-called trends values for the next higher grade (and justifiably so, IMO). It's not moon money yet, but will be soon. It also illustrates why I rarely even "watch" toners.

I'm obviously collecting the wrong stuff -- I've seen no evidence of ANY slowdown or peaking market in most of the stuff I'm looking for. If anything, it's getting more insane. That's part of the reason I'm restarting my circulated seated dime collection -- except for the keys, pretty much everything is still priced close to where it was when I first started on it more than 20 years ago.

    Thanks for the clarification, Jenna.

I had the privledge to look at several coins from the Kennywood collection long before they were cosigned to ANR, and the ones I saw, were super nice. Especially the CC seated issues, 95-o .10 in 66 and the 13-s quarters and several others.

Thanks to a fellow board member and freind for the opportunity!!!

Shame on you for suggesting that anyone should look for
coins underneath the oldest rides at Kennywood Park.

    However:

Since it was a balmy 40 degrees in Pittsburgh today

Maybe there should be an informal meeting tonight of
Pittsburgh area metal detecting enthusiasts at
the McDonalds's 50 yards away from Kennywood Park.
