Crackouts. I don't submit anything to PCGS in other holders.

Are you gonna crack that 78-CC Morgan out of the ANACS slab and submit?

At this time, no because I plan to hang on to it. If I were to sell it I would consider it. But the fact is, the ANACS grade is dead on and I don't see spending the money just to get it in a PCGS holder.

  • Congrats on the upgrades!

What vintage were the NGC holders (i.e. "fatties" or newer ones)?
  • K6AZK6AZ Posts: 9,295
The 97-S that crossed at the same grade was an old fat holder without the bar code. The other six were in relatively recent NGC holders. I picked this group of seven out of 24, I have gotten pretty good at figuring how PCGS grades these.

Edited to add: The 90-O was also in a old holder, I missed that one now that I am looking at the NGC labels. The other five were recent holders.

3 out of 7 NGC coins upgrade at PCGS and no downgrades? So much for the BS that NGC is inferior and overgrades.

But remember, I cherry picked these seven out of a group of twenty four.

Thanks. I just tallied my five submissions for 2004 with a total of 83 coins. This is how I did:

    67 crossed at same grade
    14 upgraded one point
    2 downgraded one point
    0 body bags

    I'm a happy camper. image
  • Hope you don't mind me asking but how much did it cost to grade them and what did you gane in the up grade?

Economy costs $16 a coin, and will be going up to $18 a coin next month.

As far as what I've gained, first toned coins in PCGS holders are much easier to sell. Second, a couple of these upgrades with the toning they have will mean a significant increase in the price realized for them.
  • I see thanks. I kind of thought that the coin would jump in price but did not know what it cost to send them in. so you have about $32 dollars in grading 2 times and shipping I bet those 2 downgrades hurt a bit.

Not really. One of those one point upgrades netted me a gain of over $1100. It's all in percentages.
