CAM/DCAM designation on green label?

Hello,

I've come across a coin in the old "Green Label" PCGS holder. It is graded PR69 and I wanted to know if PCGS was using the CAM/DCAM designation back in those days. This one sure looks DCAM to me! :-) Thanks for any help! Cheers!

Yes they did... but not on older coins.
    When in doubt, don't.

I believe that move to using the designations happened in the middle of the green holder run, so some were and some weren't.

Yes. I have many OGH's with cameo and dcam designations.

However, I have also seen coins in OGH's that were obviously cameo that were not designated. This has led me to the conclusion that when they started designating cameos, they didn't make a change in the holder at the same time.

Also remember that the coin must be cameo on both sides. If only a one-sided cameo, it will not get the designation from PCGS. I have seen many of these, even in the blue holders.

  • Well thanks for the info! You folks are quick. Now my next question...The coin in question is a 1989-S $5 Gold Congress. Should I submit it for a regrade or reholder? I'll put a pic up tomorrow in this thread. Thanks again.

you'd have to "date" the slab using condor's slab book generations. if the coin is clearly a CAM/DCAM and there is increased value with that designation, it's a simple matter of having it go through a Designation Review.

more information, as much as possible is always helpful, but you're forgiven that transgression since you're new. just don't let it become a habit!!!image

-------------now that i see what it is, it's almost certain that's it's a DCAM. send it in for a designation review.

Al, this is not correct. For a CAM/DCAM review, you need to send it in for a re-grade and pay the full grading fee.

simply not true. it can be designated as CAM/DCAM and the grade will hold. what the fee will be isn't something i'll argue.
