That's just what I was wondering. The obverse sure looks clean.

Yeah, that little hit on the shield is probably keeping it out of a higer holder. At least that's what I think. But, if it was in an MS-68 I probably couldn't afford it!

Now, if I could only find a 1982-P in MS-66 or higher I would really be happy. While working on this registry set for the last year, the 1982-P Kennedy in MS66 or higher has been the toughest coin to find so far. The best I have been able to find is an MS-65 example. Any yes, I have submitted quite a few to PCGS, scoured eBay, Teletrade, Heritage, the usual....... The POPS say they should be out there: 71 in MS-66 or higher. while that is not a lot of coins, you would think I would see one in a year's worth of looking.

Coins like this can make even the dead president designs look great! image

A few weeks ago I sold an NGC 64 1964-D with a reverse just about as nice as this '82-D, and maybe even slightly nicer. Unfortunately the obverse had a fair number of deep hits. The reverse was easily 66 if not 67, though. I'm glad I didn't pull it out of a BU roll, reverse first, thinking I had something special and then feeling let down when I flipped it over...

Wow!! That's pretty darn nice for a coin that didn't come out of a regular mint set.

That is far and away the nicest 82-d Kennedy I've seen. Quite cool!

Although it is interesting to see that even an ms67 Kennedy can have a big flaw like that on the shield. I've seen others too, but that is the type of thing where pcgs could just decide at a whim, lets not give ms67 anymore to Kennedy's with hits on the shield. I sent a 82-p to pcgs (on your behalf rlawsha!) that I thought would grade ms66, and it got ms64. It's not as nice as your 82-d, but clearly a small hit on the shield was the only reason for less than gem.

    Rlawsha,

I put an 82-P in PCGS 66 back in Feb, but I didn't like the coin. I'm still looking for my keeper. image

Thanks for submitting on my behalf Haletj, I appreciate it! It seems all I can get out of PCGS right now are MS64's & MS65's. I'll get an MS66 out of a quarter once in a while from 1982 or 1983 but the halves are tough. All the rolls (halves) I have looked through so far pan out at around MS63 or MS64. The souvenir sets can be anyware from MS62 to MS65. The put together sets usually are a little bit lower quality than the souvenir sets but once in a great while you can pull a reall nice looking coin out of a set.

    Here's my MS67 Kennedy (even though it's in a 66 holder):

There are some nice looking coins in this thread.

I intend to get a camera in the spring so I can play too.

  • I just sold an MS67 Kennedy on eBay for a bit less than I thought it would go for.....even posted on BST boards.here's the auction
Unfortunately, I don't have any other pics of the coin, since once it sold, I deleted them! It was a very clean coin on both sides.
