I really wasn't planning to go this show, the only reason I went was YOU - the board. I was not aware that PCGS was going to raise the coin grading prices. I had a couple Morgans from Worcester show that I wanted graded, but I had only three of them and I do not feel like spending money on regular submissions. Since I needed two more coins for required minimum I went Morgan hunting. As usual I got sidetracked, couldn't find nice enough Morgans so I went buying other coins.
I do not do commens but I couldn't help buying this nicely toned BTW for $15
BTW 1948-S
Then I continued my shopping at another table where I scored a VERY NICE, original 1914 quarter for $43 . I love this kind of originality and I could not pass this one.
MONSTER original VF 1914 quarter
At this point I was worrying that I'm not getting any Morgan dollars in my pocket. I started "in desperation" looking for some nice enough for grading. I wasn't having much luck so I decided to buy 1881 morgan, for $25 I figured I couldn't go wrong
1881 Morgan
I still needed additional Morgan, I was walking between tables, i found another dealer with a couple olf trays of Morgans, a 1979-S cought my attention, and since I did not see anything else worth buying I decided to get it. I know I overpaid for it at $170, but I like the coin anyway
1979-S morgan
As I was browsing thrugh the inventory I spotted a nice peace dolar with booming luster, so I took another look. I remember reading many posts here recently about VAMs and die cracks. I noticed that there are a couple of die cracks on the coin and I decided to buy it
1923 Peace dollar with great luster
Here's the close up of the cracks, the first one extends from the hair into the field, and the other one goes through the lower part odf the neck. I paid $50 for the coin. A couple of questions: Is it a vam, and if it is which one is it, and is it a good one? If it's a vam is the coin worth slabbing and what is the value?

Overall the show was not as busy as ususal, a couple of dealers had a visible hangover. I guess it's too close to christmas for a show, people spent a lot of money, I'm sure situation will improrove in 2005.
