I went to a local show today, for the purpose of meeting up with a couple of friends for lunch and show them my Dansco type set and my new 1874-CC dime.
I've been collecting Bust Dimes in a Dansco album, which has the Redbook varieties in it. I've been looking for a decent 1830 small 10c dime (JR-2) for about a year, as the last coin in the set. It's actually the most common 1830 variety, but I just haven't been able to find one I liked. I expected to find one at Baltimore last month, but no luck. While making the rounds at the (30 dealer) local show today, one has a nice looking 1830 in his case. I ask to see it, expecting it not to be the variety I want, but sure enough it was. That's what happens when you go to a show not expecting to buy anything! I still have a few coins in the set, I'm looking to upgrade, so I'm not totally done...
Anyway, here it is:
