The funniest negative FB I've seen

BarryBarry Posts: 10,100 ✭✭✭
Was chatting with a friend of mine at a local show today. He's a very knowledgeable Seated collector, who sells stuff on Ebay from time to time as well. He told me he recently got his first neg on Ebay. I couldn't believe it until I saw it myself:

Half dime was v.nice, bit shocked of size though!

His reply:
A NEGATIVE Because The U.S. Mint Made Half Dimes Small In Size??? K.M.R.A

And his retaliatory neg:
Very Slow Payment Then Leaves Negative Because U.S. Half Dimes Are Small In Size

Comments

  • I know doodly about half dimes but dont they call em fish scales ?

Or is that 3 cent silvers ?

  • Half dimes are half the weight of dimes. So if you thought dimes were small enough!

You know, if I were the original seller I'd be put off by that negative from a clueless buyer, but I think his retaliatory negative may have hurt his credibility more than the neg he *received* did.

It's easy for me to overlook a negative like the one he received because it was clearly unwarranted and from a clueless buyer (his response to the negative, by itself, was fine and helps us realize it was a stupid buyer who left it). I wouldn't even give a negative like that a second thought provided it wasn't a part of overall crummy feedback. Unfortunately, he turned a suspect and meaningless negative into a REAL negative that concerns me with the clear retaliation. Slow payment or not, if he wouldn't have left the negative if he didn't receive one, it's retaliation. And that, to me, DOES make a stupid negative into a very real black mark against him.

This buyer is a blithering idiot.

Look at the feedback he's left.

Yikes! Done, and done. On second thought, maybe a moron like this does justify retaliation...

Normally, I'd agree simply because slimeball sellers always retaliate. But, this is a good seller and this buffoon deserved it.

    Russ, NCNE
  • Well, kingpinbossman199 does have a point. The half dimes are rather small...

  • not sure Buffoon is quite the correct term !

Its a very small coin and the US mint is at fault ?

I have no idea what i bought !

  • The buyer probably deserved a neutral, because of slow payment. (if that was indeed the case, and it probably was)

The retaliatory neg, is still what it appears to be. (retaliatory)

I sent an email to Bill, the seller of the "tiny coin," with the URL of this thread. He got a kick out of some of the comments. BTW, for those wondering, he told me the R in KRMA stands for Rebel (he grew up in Tenn).
  • That clown also bought 300 Peace dollars.

Barry, was there some reason to leave out this bidder's ID here? Apparently it was posted in RCC, and someone else has posted a link to this guy's feedback. He is a textbook example of a bidder everyone should block. He left a neg for a seller on an auction that closed Nov 23 that he received on Nov 30 for "slow shipping".

Guess I should have posted it, Eric. Ray posted the link early in the thread (5th post down). Hope the guy selling the Peace dollars doesn't get negged for the coin being too big image

I wouldn't be ticked, I'd just post it in every auction I had listed on Ebay. Humor can help a sell.

We don't know when he received them. Check the date on that auction again. He left feed back Nov 30, but it ended on OCT 23 not Nov 23. We don't know when it actually arrived. I agree though that the neg was unjustified.

True story: Back in the 80's, a major east coast dealer bought the unique 1870-S half dime at auction. Shortly thereafter at a Long Beach show, another well known dealer expressed a serious interest in the coin. Well, the coin wasn't at the show, it was back at the east coast office. So after qualifying that the buyer had a "serious interest", the owner of the coin had an employee fly the coin to Long Beach on the next redeye flight. The next morning, the owner walked the coin up to the prospective buyer and showed him the coin. The prospective buyer gave the coin a cursory look and quickly handed it back: "Gotta pass. Too small." The owner of the coin was not amused. True story.

Was looking at some Ebay auctions and ran across this feedback again, so thought I'd bring it back to the top for those who didn't see it the first time.
  • ziggy29ziggy29 Posts: 18,668 ✭✭✭
It's pretty ridiculous. I've bought a couple of great Seated dimes from Bill since this brouhaha went around.

While I understand why he'd be miffed at such stupid negative feedback, I still think it would show more class to simply respond rationally to it and leave it alone. Any halfway understanding buyer would immediately disregard the negative as something really stupid. Personally, I'd rather deal with a seller that takes it and simply explains the cluelessness of the feedback than one who responds with a negative in kind. In fact, I'd block the yahoo who left such stupid feedback.

That won't stop me from buying more nice Seated Dimes from Bill at this point, though. He does deliver the goods.
