Washington Quarter changing portrait of Washington

We all agree the portrait of Washington has changed pretty significantly between 1932 and present. In a Type Set, you could get away with 1 Seated Quarter or you could do the 5 Seated Quarter 'basic' varieties (no drapery, drapery, arrows, arrows & rays, motto). For Type Washingtons, let's say there's 5: silver, clad, bicentennial, bicentennial silver, state quarter. How would YOU extend the Washingtons to include 'basic' varieties, ie which years have a large enough design change to warrant a 'basic' variety? I've never seen or taken the time to find an album of 32-Date Washington's to look at closely, I'd like to, but, until then, anyone want to opine?

Maybe I need to find a good book on this series, anyone want to recommend some washington reading?

For even more fun, name your varieties and illustrate with pictures!
Varieties are the spice of a Type Set.

Most of the changes were pretty minor from one year to the next though they
have occured to both the obverse and reverse nearly every year since 1967.
Some of these changes were extremely subtle like the lines added between
the eagle's legs in 1974. (obverse changes were more dramatic this year)

The most dramatic obverse change was the 1996 change when the concavity
of the coin was changed and Washington no longer appeared to rise off the
coin. He also got more a new wig this year.

'74 and '77 had more noticeable changes too. The whole obverse was reworked
to make the coin wear better in '74 and the '77 change largely reverted back to
the '73 look but kept the broader rims.

There are numerous types and mules.
    Tempus fugit.
