Irritating Loss on Ebay tonight

R&I won an auction for a 1953 Franklin PCGS Pr68Cam that had lots of bidders. R&I played fair and square (providing sniping is o.k.) Coin went up $800 in last seven seconds to $3300. I came in next to first.
The irritating thing was that coinsbyhucky sent me an email alerting me to the auction listed by 1dragons, then bid against me on the coin. This was distracting and I let R&I get a key coin. I need to learn to focus better.

They call me "Pack the Ripper"
I have lost more than a couple auctions to R&I - they have a client list with deep pockets. If he doesn't already have a buyer, it will be in his newsletter in a month or so (with appropriate markup) so you may get a second chance.

Not sure what this means. I will assume that you may have wanted to bid higher.
First, IMO, to have the best chance to win an eBay auction you MUST snipe. In this auction you bid three times on this coin with one of those times with 11 minutes left and your last time was with 3 minutes left. Why the impatience?
You need to bid with less than 10 SECONDS left to be effective. At that point you make your one and only bid for the highest amount you are willing to pay. More often than not you will pay less (and sometimes far less) than your max bid. Other times you lose but this should be no sweat because it sold for more than you were willing to pay.

I couldn't agree with you more. My philosophy exactly.
Takes all the emotion out of the auction game. I win some, I lose some. But I am not chained to my computer to watch auctions close at all times of the day. And no "bidder frenzy" toward the end.
