Other than the Christmas Coin Swap, which doesn't really count, NOPE. Actually, I think my girlfriend may be getting me a new copy of Breen's Encyclopedia (My old one is TORE UP) if she actually remembered the name of it... We'll see.

Edit: Actually, I am giving a ton of junk slabs and ~60's proof sets to the youngens in the extended family.

I received cash... that's numismatic image

Actually, my parents said they'd put $150 towards a coin... January show in 2 weeks and a day! image

PS- I'll probably use it to get something type related... I want it to be a coin that I know I'll keep, not one that I'd give myself good odds of flipping within a few months... one where the money will allow me to get the next grade up image

  • I was asked to select coins for a small collection for a young child that will grow over the years in size and scope so that he might be interested in collecting when older. I have been asked to buy in spurts - the first lot was a 1939 PCGS PR63 pretty clean haze free Jefferson 5c, a well struck 1944-d PCGS MS65 5C and a 1965 PCGS MS66 SPS. Next I plan PR64 RB 1938-42 Lincoln, one of the 09's, a war cent and a Proof Memorial.

Nope. I'm the only one in my family with the "coin bug". It's probably better that they don't try to buy me anything!

Closest I've come is chocolate coins, and once they gave me a Chucky Cheese token. image

I bought a cherry wood box for a really good coin-buddy. I had a brass plate engraved with the name of his collection and centered that on the front of the box. I sent it to him with three trays in it; each will hold nine coins.

I have a similar box for me. I'll try to post pics of that one tomorrow.

  • I am giving my son a very nice MS-65 Saint--I have always given him Morgans in the past but he is unable to save money so I figure something that he has to keep in the SD box will be a good investment for him!
  • I didn't take any chances...bought this and when it arrived, handed it to my wife and told her not to get me anything else - just put this in my stocking!image
I like the pattern of toning, and the fact that it's already safely in PCGS plastic. Here's the reverse (even better)

Two years ago when my wife and I were driving to my parents' house we stopped at a coin shop 100 miles from our destination. I was looking at Liberty Nickels, Barber Dimes, and very worn Seated Liberty coins. I spotted a nice NGC slabbed $20 Liberty and told her, jokingly, that that is what she should buy me for Christmas. When she asked me to go out to the car and bring in her purse, I spotted a nice raw $20 Saint in the same display case. I was trying to convice her we couldn't afford either one, and refused to get her purse. Three requests for the purse later, I was still undecided, and almost threatened to walk her purse across the parking lot. When I came back, I dawdled between the slabbed Liberty and the raw Saint, so she bought me both!

That exceeds my expected receiving for several years.

As far as giving this year, I have given up on neices and nephews, none of whom ever thanked me for birth year proof sets. I'll give my 2 year-old-grandson the dateless Liberty and Buffalo nickels he enjoys tossing into my laser printer's duplexer when he visits me. More significantly, I have a couple of coins I will send to my favorite dealer/mentor, who invited me to his house when I was on vacation in Tennessee this past September.

I'm giving my dad a 1888 "Bullion and Exchange Bank check" from CC, Nevada. I think he will like it because it has history behind it.
  • Yes, all of our 6 children and their spouses, and all 12 of our grandchildren, Godson, and nieces and nephews, brother will all be receiving coins from me, as usual.

I picked out a nice (1853) seated dime with arrows to give to me for Christmas.

I love to be able to pick out my own, that way I know I'll like it.

Problem is I want it now.

I'll be giving my nephew, a very young YN-16 months old-a few coins for Christmas this year. I guess I should probably get him a toy or something, too.
  • My wife broke down a couple of weeks ago and showed me one of my presents.
I was three common date Morgans in low grade uncirculated condition. They were
in some fancy packaging with a little historical writeup.

I asked her how much she paid and she said about $53 each. I then took her
to my coin storage area and pulled out a few to show her what $53 *should* get.

Needless to say, they were in the mail shortly back to the retailer. My wife will
no longer be buying me coins. Instead I asked her to consider giving me a day off
on the weekeds so I can attend a coin show.
