Mmmm, new darkside stuff...

Just a couple things at the local shop...
1st coin was $7, and the second coin was melt! $64, for 10 ounces of proof coin! Now every time I look at it, the phrase

<< <i>You want to pet my monkey! >>

comes to mind...

It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

10 oz for $64 is way under melt, please give me the address of your dealer. (P.S. nice coins!)

Year of the monkey - I don't like monkeys, not even a little bit. So you can have all of them you want with no complaint or competition from me.

Austrian Netherlands (modern day Belgium). The denominations were not explictly stated on the coin, but it looks like a 1/4 kronenthaler, KM60, struck at Kremnitz, Hungary, and valued at $7 in VG and $15 in F.

The guy on the coin is Francis II the last Holy Roman Emperor. His rule over the Austrian Netherlands is documneted in the last title "COM FLAN" = Count of Flanders.

I have no monkeys in my closet either (actually I really don't have a closet in my present cave). I spent an ENTIRELY too long a day in a place called "The Monkey Jungle - where people are caged and the monkeys run free!" My young daughters at the time found them delightfully amusing. My opinion remains somewhat different to this day. They are nasty feces tossing rodents who totally deserve to be used in medical experiments if they can't be kept in the wild.

So you can keep all the monkey coins you want, feel good about it and even have a giggle at my expense, I however, shall not ever have said coins (1 oz or 10 oz) in my personal collection. So feel good and know there is one less competitor out there in this area anyway. image
