ways to improve ebay

I have a few things I would like to see ebay change...first i think you should be able to see the auctions in real time. This way you wont have to keep refreshing the page. Also multiple watch list folders. I share and ebay account with my girlfriend and i hate when my cards are on the second page to her clothes and crafty junk. Do you guys got anymore ideas?

Yeah if you could organize your watched items and favorite searches into folders that would be nice.

I always thought the feedback rating could be made much more meaningful. Postive, neutral, and negative are not enough. I'd like to be able to rate sellers from 1 to 10, also in specific categories, such as packaging, shipping speed, and communication.

I wish they would significantly expand the Buyer Requirements section. I can, and have, blocked bidders with 2 unpaid item strikes in the last 30 days and with feedback of -1 or less; what I'd like to do is block bidders with 1 unpaid item strike in the last year, feedack of less than 10, a feedback % of less than 90 and all minors (whether they claim to be federal agents or not).
This is for you @thisistheshow - Jim Rice was actually a pretty good player.

  • get rid of private auctions & 1 day auctions, and end all auctions where the seller cannot spell at least 90% of the words in their discription.

I'm all for dumping the private auctions, private feedback and 1-day auctions. I don't believe there are good enough reasons to justify any of them. If someone is concerned about their feedback being public, too bad, don't buy or sell on eBay then. And if the item is so valuable and/or important that the bidder's identity needs to be hidden, sell it at a big name auction house.

I am also for much stricter standards in membership, which include measures of accountability for both buyers and sellers.

Well there are circumstances where a buyer may recieve one unwarranted unpaid strike. I have one for an item I paid for, and have proof of it through Paypal. Ebay told me it is up to the seller to remove it. Feedback of less than 10 is just a bad idea as well. Most of my trouble buyers are buyers who are veterans with over 100 feedback. Most of my new buyers pay within a few days. 2 of my last 3 non paying bidders have had over 100 FB. One was a power seller who told me because they are they can pay when they won't to and reporting them to Ebay would do no good, that it would only result in me getting into trouble with Ebay.

  • The feedback system is a little disappointing.

As the previous poster mentioned, there should be a 1-10 rating system for shipping speed, communication, item condition, payment speed and other important criteria.

When selling, you could adjust the buying requirements as necessary (i.e. blocking bidders who take forever to pay).

If Ebay wants to grab more of the high end market (i.e. Mastro), this kind of system seems inevitable.

I'd like to see more in the way of search term flexibility, a little standardization of search terms. Like in addition to a title and a category, you'd have standard lists of search terms you could select like "Autograph," "Topps," and "McGwire" to eliminate spelling problems and such. So if some moron, who has the card right in front of him, enters a title of "Tops Maguire Autograhp" I'd still be able to find it. It would require a bit of work on ebay's part, but I'd appreciate it a lot for card brands. When I look for Topps 206 Polar Bear minis (which I still need, if anyone has them), my search looks like this:
    (topps 206,topps206,toppst206,topps t206,t206,t-206) (polar*,mini)
Of course, this picks up a lot of original T-206s, but a lot of people sell the modern Topps cards with noting them as Topps.

    WANTED:
2005 Origins Old Judge Brown #/20 and Black 1/1s, 2000 Ultimate Victory Gold #/25
2004 UD Legends Bake McBride autos & parallels, and 1974 Topps #601 PSA 9
Rare Grady Sizemore parallels, printing plates, autographs

    Nothing on ebay
  • Ranger, you are allowed to have as many accounts as you want as long as they are all in good standing and not suspended. They also cannot interact with each other.

  • End snipping programs or extend auctions if bids are placed in the last minute untill all bidding is done.
  • End snipping programs or extend auctions if bids are placed in the last minute untill all bidding is done.

I explained in another post why this would not work, you would either have malicious bidders creating endless auctions. Or worse case for sellers, if Ebay did set up a one time extension if a new bidder jumps in in the last minute. You would have buyers possibly holding off bidding at the normal end thinking that another bidder will snipe and then they jump in at the end of the extension. Nobody pulls the trigger and the auction ends without any bidders getting in. This would create less income for sellers and Ebay. I have "bid stalkers" so I have no choice but to snipe having an extension would just force me to show my hand early.

Again though what differences does it matter when you bid if you are not smart enough to put your max bid in when you bid you deserve to lose. Highest bid wins in case of tie first bid wins.

Not sniping also sets bidders up to be shilled by dishonest sellers and trust me shill bidding is pretty rampant on Ebay and it is hard to catch.
