Relief - Found some coins that I misplaced

badgerbadger Posts: 1,217 ✭✭✭
Ever lose track of a coin? I had the following missing for several months and just found them. Whew!

All NGC
1950 50c Pr67 Cam
1950 25c Pr67 Cam
1950 1c Pr66 Ucam
1960 5c Pr69 UCam
1958 1c Pr69 UCam
1958 1c Pr68 UCam

Can't describe the relief. The thought of losing the key coins from the hobby was almost greater than the irritation of the $ loss.

All well now.

    good for you!
  • I'm glad you found them!

I had a coin I spent a few days finding after seeing a thread here about one of them. I have since sent it to another member to get his opinion on it!

I figured LordM was going to say that he specializes in FINDING coins that have been misplaced (by others a long long time ago).

    Well, yeah, that too.

But I'm not as successful at finding the ones I misplace, particularly as a metal detector isn't very helpful inside a mobile home...

I lose track all the time. Hard to keep the puppies in the box between the safety deposit boxes. the safe, and the desk.

In all cases exept one, the puppies have always come home. The one exception is a coin that was lifted by a dealer (no flaming please). I learned a valuable lesson - keep track of your coins when in a public place - dealer or no dealer. That is the place where your coins are most at risk. I now keep slabs in full boxes - that way a missing coin is easily visible.

Baj - these were lost for 5 months in a kitchen drawer. Some blue trash bags were piled on top and blended with the blue PCGS box. Don't remember why they were there to begin with.

Now I put the location of each coin in the inventory spreadsheet.

  • I need somebody to come over to my place and look through my closets.

I lost a shotgun roll of BU 41 Mercs somewhere in my house over a year ago. I qave up looking quite awhile back, but I know they are here somewhere image

I lost a 1955 double die Lincoln several months ago and still haven't found it. I told Don Merz when I die I want him and Ken to come over and go through every box, envelope and paper I have. It's hard to say how much I have "lost" around here.

  • Techeff,

I am curious why you would carry around a 1900 $5 gold piece. Is it your lucky coin?

  • I totally forgot about some purchases I made from 1999 -2000, so I guess I qualify. Luckily, one of my purchases was a 1999 Silver Proof Set, because I would surely hate to have to buy one now.

  • I put my slabbed Barber dime set in my safe deposit box when I went out of town.
The box only held 32 slabs, so I put the remaining slab, PCGS PR62, in an Eagle binder and
promptly forgot about it. Took six months to figure out where I left it.

  • When I lose things, I try to dream about them. Sometimes when I pray real hard, God will help me find things that I lost. I guess I do lose things quite a bit. Hubby gets mad at me and I deny it, but guess he's right, actually. HOWEVER, they are not really lost - just nearby. Sometimes - it's a snake!

I loose coins every so often, not remembering which safe deposit box I placed them in...it happens all the time when I'm in a hurry...then I have to get all of them out and resort, and inventory them by box #. Yesterday I went to the bank, placed new purchases (that were in a PCGS blue box) in one of my boxes only to discover when I returned home that I had six other coins tucked into a side compartment of my "bank bag". Oh well, at least I know where these six coins are now !
