Peace dollar hoard

I don't think three dozen coins make a "hoard", but I know I need some assistance. I picked up over 30 Peace dollars a week ago. They are all circulated, some are dirty and stained, some have probably been cleaned, some don't look too bad. There aren't any keys dates, most are 22's. I couldn't pass it up for $8 each and no S&H costs (just a little gas money). I'm trying to educate myself on Morgan VAMs. Don't know much about Peace dollars. I just picked up the Top 50 Peace Dollar Varieties book (Oxman & Close), but have just barely opened the cover. I'll start reading this afternoon and will probably be looking at these coins all day (though I got a dozen Morgans at the same price that I need to check).
Here are some 100 DPI scans. I have some in higher resolution, but I figured this was already more than most wanted to see. Anything special I should be looking for? Any nice varieties in the 22s, 23s, or 25s? Any other suggestions or comments? I looked quick and only saw some double dates on some 22s and one 25, and a die crack through the middle of the Y on a 22D. Thanks in advance!

  • You are on the right trck with the book. There are a lot of good sources on the net and have been mentioned here. Jsut do a search. Good luck and have fun.
  • Several of those coins have nice original gold toning. I'd pick out the nicest three or four plus any VAM's, and take 'em to a show to trade-in for some other dates. There's like only 24 for a complete set anyway.
