JHF - Congratulations on another great collection. I was just marveling over your -16- or so world class Philippine Registry collections, not to mention your SLQ's, Shield Nickels, Roosies, Jeffs, etc., etc., etc. You may have one of the most eclectic coin collections today. It is great to see your appreciation of US classics, US moderns, Philippine coins, etc.

I'm of course going to be trying to upgrade my Roosies, but whether or not I can top Rick, I don't know. He has a great collection. How he ever found so many full-bands on those tough dates, amazes me. He deserves the #1 spot.
Speaking of trying to upgrade my Roosies, is it within the etiquette of this message board to list either the coins I'm looking for or the coins I have to swap?
In the meantime, enjoy!

Thank you for your great help in building this Roosie set.
Regarding my other "finest known" sets, of all the sets, I'm most proud of the US Philippines business strikes. These coins are finally gaining recognition as genuine US coins. Indeed, the coins all say: United States of America on the reverse. They also all have the America heraldic eagle. And most important of all, they're at long-last recognized as true American coins by the Red Book, NGC and PCGS.
I'm so proud of my collection because it's so hard to put together a collection in unc; even MS 62, to say nothing of gem. They are extraordinarily rare in good condition.
Among the 10-centavos (the Roosie-sized coin in the series), 7 of the 20 dates have gem pop of two or less! I've waited 4 or 5 years even to see a nice unc of some of these dates. And yet, the coins are still really cheap. If you can find the coins, you can put together a great set for less than a a quarter the cost of this whole Roosie collection.
And that speaks to your point, Mr. Bushmaster8. Of course rare coins cost money, but that's no reason to be envious.
You can get lots of money too, if you're willing to sacrifice the way I did. When I started my business -- gosh, I guess it's 37 years ago, now -- for the first three years, I worked 80 hours a week and didn't take home even half the minimum wage. But I stuck with it and now I can buy lots and lots of coins, and I love it. You can do the same if you're willing.
Two books might help you on your way, as they did me: One is "Think & Grow Rich," by Napoleon Hill, which will show you how to use your mind to conquer obstacles -- and make more money than you can even dream possible right now.
The other is "Acres of Diamonds," by (I believe) Conwell. Conwell's message is simply that people like you and I have wonderful opportunities in front of us, but usually don't see them. He showed me how to open my eyes, and I found my own "acre of diamonds."
There's no doubt in my mind, you have your own acre of diamonds right out there in front of you, but it's hard to spot. But if you'll read his book and listen with your mind's eye, he can show you how to find your own acre of diamonds.
Both books are very old but I think they're still in print. If you want them and can't find 'em, let me know and I'll have my stateside secretary ship you a set. No charge.
In the meantime, enjoy!

Dear Mr. Cladking
If by PL you mean, "proof like" then, unfortunately, no. Many are beautifully toned.
Dear rcmlgm89
Mr. Wondercoin deserves the credit. This is really more his set than mine. He found the coins, I wrote the checks. He had the hard job. All I had to do was keep my nose to the grindstone and make sure I could pay his bills (which wasn't always that easy!).
All my other finest-known sets I built on my own -- sometimes with huge assists from Mr. Wondercoin, Warren Mills (Rare Coins of New Hampshire), and Warren's #2, Jon Rosenthal.
No, no. My clad quarters, which I haven't posted yet, that's the same as the Roosies. When I post them, give Mr. Wondercoin the credit. He built that collection too.
Best wishes!

Just Having Fun, Thanks for the information on your collection. I am always amazed at the great collections I see in the registry and know the time and investment that goes into each and every one. I am going to look for the two books you listed, sounds like they are about how to live your life in a positive way. I have found Jon Rosenthal very helpful in putting together my Liberty Nickel set and in watching the boards, Mr. Wondercoin looks to be at the center of many nice collections. Thanks again and keep up the good work. Ron
Thank you! And good luck with your Mercury's. I collected them out of pocket change as a kid and still love 'em and have a few nice ones. But overall, I simply didn't think I could afford to collect 'em.
Dear Haletj:
Thank you, too.
The Lincoln pennies are like the Mercury dimes. I collected them as a kid (and still have a childhood 22 no D). I still love 'em and have a few nice ones.
One of them, I got about 5 years ago, when Warren Mills at Rare Coins of New Hampshire, little-known but still one of the best dealers, phoned me saying something like: "I know you're not collecting Lincoln's, but I have one here you should take. It's a 1969-S Doubled-Die Obverse, graded AU 58 by PCGS. It's a much harder coin than the 55-double die obverse, and is going to be worth a lot of money." He said $9,020, and I took it.
Then, just the other day, a thread about the coin. And apparently one in the same grade had sold for $24,000 and here was a second one, being sold for $36,000. Holy Moley, I have to go thank Warren for that one.
And hello Dan50 and thank you, too!
Dear LindeDad
Thank you, and actually I have many more potential upgrades than 9 since some of my population tops are not full band. An MS67 full band tops an MS68 no full bands in this set.
Dear rcmlgm89
Same offer on the books for you. If you can't find them, I'm sure I have a few extras at my state-side office.
Warm regards from Thailand!

JHF, Your clad set is a great compliment to your silver set and with the two together is the finest complete 1946 - date set known. Congratulations on putting together such a wonderful set of Roosevelt dimes. I would love to see the complete set displayed at a major show.
Kudos to Mitch who helped bring it all together for you.
Thank you Peetie, RegistryCoin, and Rainbow Roosies!
And I upgraded the set yesterday. Someone mentioned that an MS 67Full Band scored higher than an MS68 no full bands, and I tested out a bunch of lower graded full banders, and it worked. So I entered them all. No more easy upgrades, now.
I tried the same thing with my shield nickel deep cameos and it didn't work.
Dear Only Roosies:
Thank you too, and tomorrow I'll see if Fah, my secretary out here, can enter the universal set. Then we'll see if you're right. I hope so, but don't know.
I see the beautiful toning on your logo and I do have a lot of Roosies with that beautiful toning. They're really nice coins.
As far as displaying them, I can't do that since I'm living in Asia and don't get back to the states often enough. So displaying is up to Mr. Wondercoin who already has my permission to remove them from my vault and display the set any time he wants.
Warm regards,
