What is this?

I got this token? in a group of coins. It's very tiny (12mm) and seems to be made of iron or zinc. It has a reeded edge. While the design looks British, the words around the King's head read: IM: OF.ONE.CROWN.LATER NURNBERG.MADE IN GERMANY . I may be off on one or more letters because they're very small and hard to see.

Didn't the Germans have a lot of unusual "play money" around? Your estimate of the material makes me think that, or possibly some sort of gaming token.

That's a very unusual looking piece.

  • Let menow if you figure it out, I have one dsted 1897 with The Diamond Jubilee head and King George Slaying the dragon, also struck Nurnburg. i seem to remember reading somewhere that this was a medal and it originaly had a clip and ribbon ? I would be interested to see what you can find out.....

    Brad........
  • I suspect "LATER" is actually LAUER, a maker of many different miniature coins. I have a German 20 Mark and 2 Pfennig piece that were acquired in bulk lots. There are a couple of different pieces listed on ebay now.

I believe this subject came up a couple of weeks (months?) ago.

Something about "let Germany keep their King" because their law didn't allow women to be heads of state. Any one else remember this?
