Morgan 1921-D VAM-14

No, I don't have a 21-D VAM-14. I was bidding on a coin on the internet. The photo is in a cardboard 2x2 and blurry. It's just listed as a 21-D MS60. I think the cellophane might be blocking the "D", but it might be worth a $20-30 chance for a VAM-14? I play the slots too.

    Are you still bidding?
  • I'd stick to the double joker machines with a 9-6 payout--- or you could email the seller a question.image

  • I bought it for $30. I blew the picture up so much that I finally convinced myself I had a chance. I think I also saw the Virgin Mary in the left wing.

So, what is VAM 14? What are the diagnostics? By the way, your coin is for sure a D mint. I can see it. Don't quite see the Virgin Mary, but I will keep trying. image

Remember it's not how you pick your nose that matters, it's where you put the boogers.

  • I've got to head out for my kid's concert at school. I can look it up again later... something about a partially filled D mint mark and some doubled/tripled stars. All I remember is I-3 R-6.
  • The VAM-14 is listed in the last addendum to the VAM book. Stars are doubled/tripled on obverse, some specimens have a filled die D mint mark.... which is what I was hoping for. I know, I'm dreaming. I picked up something from the same seller last month for under $20. The first picture is what was posted, the smaller close-up is something I scanned after the coin arrived. This one was easier to see when I blew up the original. It's an 1886-P VAM-1B. I'm trying to get different types of VAMs, so this was great... with the chip in the designer's initial.

  • There's a photo of the 21-D VAM-14 on one of the member's websites. Don't think I can point to it without permission, but look at ashmore's response to my thread. The pictures on these sites are excellent. Supposed to be a die filled D for the VAM-14. I can see the outline in the original photo I posted. Probably distorted by the cellophane. I figure even if it's only a high AU and not a VAM, I'll loose less than the slots.
  • This coin arrived today. I took some scans, but my scanner's not doing too well today.
It looks like the VAM-14 - left stars tripled to quadrupled, rights stars doubled to tripled. Some specimens have a filled die D mint mark.
I can see the doubled and tripled stars on the left and right. The D is partially filled.
Does anyone own a 1921-D VAM-14? If you do, can you compare the die cracks near the date? Does this look like the same?
I got 1921-D VAM-1F in the same shipment. Early die state, but very nice cracks.
