Buyer Fee What What! (Teletrade)

I just placed some bids on teletrade thinking I'd pay the price listed plus shipping. I check how much I owe and BOOM $10 on $21 worth of bids. $35 after shipping! Is it always like this? geez, I coulda found the same two coins for way less at my coin shop...you live, you learn as the song goes!

  • ah! that was it...that stupid $5 min I never read about d'oh!
  • How do I add my friggin phone number so that I can pay for the darn thing?
  • Yeah those buyer fees are a pain in the .........but they do have some nice coins most of the time, So who has a higher buyer fee TT or Heritage for under 100 dollars?
putting together a MS 60 and up Morgan set....60% complete...otlher 40% probably take the rest of the decade!
  • the number 1 reason I don't deal with teletrade. Now of course if I happen to come a cross a coin I really really want I may change my tune.image

The BP isn't too bad if you buy coins over $50, but I certainly wouldn't pay that $5 minimum for coins under $25.
  • Ah... the fine print..... got me too....... For all of you who haven't seen this yet (It can't be too many by nowimage)

For those of you who are not aware, if you return a coin to Teletrade you WILL incur a “restock” fee along with other fees they see fit no matter how many coins you’ve bought from them in the past. I personally lost over $ 50.00 returning a $ 850 coin after I didn’t agree with the coin’s description. Frankly, it wasn’t even close to the description. Good luck with your purchase..........

Buyers premiums have kept me from taking part in coin auctions period. I don't think it's right, but to late to change things now. I will add this, the first major auction company that can operate without the BP will rise to the top in a hurry. image

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the auction co. charge the cosigner a % as well. image There getting it from both ends.

When you buy land at auction, there's no added charge to the price just because you got the winning bid.

Besides coin auction co's, what other kind of co's have an added BP ?

Does anyone else feel the same way I do ?

  • I believe all of the large auction houses charge or used to charge a buyers fee of approximately 10%.

  • I don't understand why in makes any of difference what the commissions or shipping cost are. If it cost $8 to buy a $50 coin on TT, it seems that you would bid up to $42 on the coin. Same goes for ebay.
